HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-09-1998Auburn Arts Commission Monday, November 9, 1998 MINUTES Commissioners present: Herman Ansingh, Ron Carson, Paul Dodsworth, Bonnie Egbert, Don Gardner, Cheryl Hosking, Lynn Norman, Bobby Medina, Pam Smith, Gertie Sprenger. Commissioners absent: Barbie Sharrard (excused). Chair Norman asked the minutes be approved as mailed. It was noted and amended that Pam Smith had been present at the last meeting. Commissioner Gardner moved the minutes be approved. Motion seconded by Commissioner Dodsworth. MOTION APPROVED II. Chair's Report Chair Norman informed the Commissioners that King County Arts Commission were reportedly cutting their budget by 17% in 1999. She asked members to write individual letters of support thanking King County for its past general support and highlighting the programs that the Auburn Arts Commission has been able to accomplish with King County Funds. III. Committee Reports A. Gallery Program Commissioner Ron Carson gave an overview of the selection of artists for the 1999 City Hall Gallery schedule. Staff member Susan Sagawa handed out a tentative schedule of the dates for the exhibitions with the names of the artists and a brief description of their work. It was agreed to show the slides of the five artists selected at the next Commission meeting. IV. Staff Reports A BRAVOI Josie Emmons reported that the poster and program notes were ready for the next BRAVO! performance- A Tap Dance Christmas Carol- with Johnson & Peters, December 3 & 4. She reported on ticket sales for the event: 400 pre-sales for the performances - Thursday 100, Friday 300. A discussion followed on whether to go ahead with the two performances, or whether to combine both performances on Friday evening. A motion was made by Commissioner Hosking to combine Thursday and Friday night performances and change Thursday evening to a dress rehearsal that would be open to the public. This change in date will be subject to staff discussions with the artists and the City Administrators. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharrard. MOTION APPROVED Other Business Lynn Norman formally announced to the Commissioners the resignation of staff member Josie Emmons. Josie Emmons is leaving to take a new position in Tacoma as the City's Cultural Resources Manager. There followed a special farewell ceremony. The Commissioners presented to Emmons a card and present, and had refreshments to celebrate. There was no other business. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be Monday December 14 at 4:30 p.m., Conference Room 1.
