HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-14-2003Auburn Arts Commission Monday, April 14, 2003 MINUTES Commissioners present: Chair Anne Baunach, Herman Ansingh, Kristen Brock, Steve LePenske, Barbie Sharrard, Gertie Sprenger, John Stanphill, Paul Dodsworth, & Lyrm Norman Commissioners absent: Don Gardner, Pam Smith, Bonnie Egbert (all excused) Staff present: Susan Gochoel, cultural programs manager; Danielle Lusk, arts assistant Staff absent: Loft Patrick, cultural programs coordinator (excused) Chair Ann Baunach called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. I. Introductions and approval of minutes Commissioner Lynn Norman moved that the minutes be approved as mailed. Commissioner Paul Dodsworth seconded the motion. MOTION APPROVED II. Artspace A1 Hicks and Paul Krause from the Planning Department attended the meeting informing the commissioners about their meeting with Artspace representatives. Hicks and Krause explained the fundamentals of the project including the studies, the need for a building, the need for community support, and the lack of funding. Hicks and Krause left after answering questions, and the commissioners discussed the positives and negatives of going forth with this program, and possible sources of funding. The commissioners then decided to take a vote at the next arts commission meeting. III. Operation Cleansweep, June 7, 2003 Cleansweep has been changed to June 7, 2003, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Some ideas for Cleansweep included: a possible mural on the back of the B St. Plaza bars, the exercise equipment in Auburn Dale Park needs to be repainted, Cameron Park's play equipment needs to be repainted. Norman suggested a mural at the intersection of Main and C St., possibly on the back of one of the auto repair shops. IV. 2003/2004 BRAVO! season Gochoel listed the upcoming season's events, which include: Living Legends dance performance by Brigham Young University, Eastside Musical Theatre's Evita, Shangfi-La Acrobats, two performances of Auburn Symphony Orchestra, Bobby Medina, Evergreen City Ballet's Nutcracker, and Seattle Opera. The BRAVO! Kids season includes 5 performances. V. Sound Equipment Gochoel said the tOtal cost to replace the stolen sound equipment from the Parks and Recreation Administrative Building is $7,000. The city's insurance company has a $5,000 deductible. An order has been placed with Commercial Sound and will be ready for the Shades of Summer concerts. VI. Restoration of Public Art Work at Roegner Park Restoration begins April 15, 2003 with ARTECH Services in Renton. VII. Cultural Development Authority of King County Sustained Support Grant Thc Cultural Development Authority of King County has granted $10,080, which thc Auburn Arts Commission will add $1,920, to make a total of $12,000 to bc m-granted to local community arts organizations. The grant panel review is Wednesday, June 25, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at City Hall in Room 3. VIII. Any Other Business · Gochoel stated an application went to Boeing for printing the next season's BRAVO! brochure. John Stanphill of the arts commission, and a Boeing manager, coordinated the application. There was no other business. The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m. The next regular meeting is Monday, May 12th, 4:30 p.m. in the City Council Conference Room at City Hall, 25 West Main Street.
