HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-08-2006 City of Auburn Arts Commission Monday, May 8, 2006, 4:30 pm Meeting Minutes Commissioners present: Chair Kristen Brock, Herman Ansingh, Bonnie Egbert, Linda Elliott, Amanda Flanery, Pat Gallagher, Barbie Sharrard, Steve LePenske, Pam Smith Commissioners absent (excused): Anne Baunach, Nancy Colson, Don Gardner Staff present: Laurie Rose, Cultural Arts Manager Call to order: Commission Chair Kristen Brock called the meeting to order at 4:36 p.m. I. Approval of April Minutes I Introductions Commission Chair Kristen Brock called for approval of the April minutes. Commissioner Bonnie Egbert moved the April minutes be approved as submitted. Commissioner Steve LePenske seconded the motion. Motion Approved. Cultural Arts Manager Laurie Rose introduced guest Elaine Harper, Arts Manager for the City of Lake Oswego, Oregon. II. Guest speaker: Elaine Harper Ms. Harper's presentation regarded the City of Lake Oswego's Public Art Program. Discussion and a "Q&A" session followed regarding the scope and history of Lake Oswego's Public Art Program. III. Staff Report April Month End Report: Ms. Rose circulated the Cultural Arts April month-end staff report for commissioner's review. Cultural Arts Coordinator Search: The search for the Coordinator position is in progress. The first round of applicants did not meet minimum requirements. In an effort to recruit qualified applicants, a second job announcement was posted and sent to various arts and recreation-related associations throughout Washington State. May 8, 2006, City of Auburn Arts Commission Meeting Minutes Page 1 of 2 IV. Public Art Project Updates: F Street & Auburn Way S. and W. Main Street The F Street Public Art project is installed. Landscaping will be finished later this spring and lighting will be installed this month. Ms. Rose will introduce the W. Main Street Public Art proposal by artist team Tom Askman and Lea Anne Lake to the Public Community Development Committee directly after tonight's commission meeting. The presentation will include all options from the revised proposal. V. BRAVO updates The 2005/2006 season revenues came in at 4% higher than projections and attendance numbers came in just under goal. The brochure and marketing initiatives for next season are in the planning stages. VI. 2006 Arts Organizational Support Grant ("Re-grant" program) The 2006 grant review panel will convene in June 15 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Parks, Arts & Recreation offices to review the current year's applicants. VII. Other Business Ms. Rose announced she will visit Lake Oswego the end of this week to meet with their Parks/Recreation staff and board members regarding Auburn's BRAVO series and tour that city's public art collection with Ms. Harper.
