Meeting Minutes
Commissioners present: Herman Ansingh, Anne Baunach, Kristen Brock, Nancy
Colson, Linda Elliot, Pat Gallagher, Steve LePenske, Pam Smith
Commissioners absent: Amanda Flanery, Barbara Sharrard (Excused),
Staff present: Laurie Rose, Cultural Arts Manager; Megan Myers, Cultural Arts
Specialist
Guests present: Don Gardner, Judy Gardner, Bonnie Egbert
Call to order: Commission Chair Pam Smith called the meeting to order at 4:38p.m.
I. Approval of Minutes
Ms. Smith called for approval of the December minutes. Commissioner Steve
LePenske moved the December minutes be approved as submitted.
Commissioner Anne Baunach seconded the motion. Motion approved.
II. Chair's Report
Retiring Commission members: Ms. Smith thanked retiring commission
members Don Gardner and Bonnie Egbert for their service to the Auburn Arts
Commission. Mr. Gardner served on the commission for 15 years and Ms.
Egbert served on the commission for 18 years. Both Mr. Gardner and Ms.
Edgbert said they look forward to serving on one of the newly formed action
committees.
Committee Assignments: Cultural Arts Manager Laurie Rose requested
commission members submit their lists at this meeting of those action
committees and selection panels they are interested in either chairing or sitting
on for 2007. The panels include a Public Art Project Selection, Visual Art
Selection (gallery), and Sustained Support Grant Review. Panels are managed
by staff and members include commissioners, related panel peers, and/or
community stake-holders. Action Committees are chaired by an arts
commissioner and membership is comprised of other commissioners, citizens-
at-large, community stake holders and staff. Committees include
Membership/Nomination Committee, Performing Arts Programs, Public Art
Program, Visual Art Program, Sustained Support Grant Program and
Education/Artisans-in-Schools.

III. Committee / Panel Reports
Membership /Policy Committee: The Membership Committee convened on
Jan. 2, 2007. The Membership Committee is co-chaired by commissioners
Nancy Colson and Anne Baunach. Ms. Colson presented the committee's two
immediate goals: (1) determine a list of potential candidates to fill current and
upcoming vacancies on the commission and to enlist community membership
on the action committees and, (2) to evaluate/review the bylaws, policies and
mission of the arts commission as a whole, including the implementation of
commission membership term limits. Discussion followed. The Membership
Committee proposes term limits as (2) three-year terms with a minimum one
year rotation off. At the end of this year, the commissioner may to re-apply to
the Mayor of Auburn to be considered for any vacancies on the commission.
Ms. Smith asked the commission consider this for further discussion and later
vote. Ms. Rose reminded commission that any and all additions, deletions or
changes to the commission's bylaws require Council approval through
resolution.
IV. Staff Report
Month-end Memo Project Review: BRAVO's 4 and 5-show ticket
subscriptions are still available for sale for the BRAVO series. These
subscription packages have proved the strongest sales in the past 3 seasons.
In an effort to increase Kids' BRAVO ticket sales, an additional Kids' BRAVO
postcard has been distributed through ASD kid mail, grades K-4. Auburn
Avenue Theatre Update: the new venue will open with programming on April 1,
2007.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
