CITY OF * ,, T ~ JJ~~ T J~~~-JL V ~../ ,~ WASHINGTON City of Auburn Arts Commission Monday, January 7, 2008, 4:30 pm Meeting Minutes Commissioners present: Lela Brugger, Nancy Colson, Linda Elliott, Amanda Flanery, Pat Gallagher, Patricia Judd, Leslie Moore, Tanya Rottle, Laurel Siegmund, Councilmember Rich Wagner. Commissioners absent: Kristen Brock Staff present: Laurie Rose, Cultural Arts Manager, Megan Myers, Cultural Arts Specialist Call to order: President Linda Elliott called the meeting to order at 4:35 p.m. I. Approval of Minutes, Introductions Commissioner Linda Elliott called for approval of the December minutes. Commissioner Nancy Colson moved the December minutes be approved as submitted. Commissioner Leslie Moore seconded the motion. Motion approved. II. Committee/Panel Reports Chair Report Ms. Elliott introduced the new Arts Commissioners, Officers and Committee Chairs. For 2008, Ms. Elliott will serve as President and Commissioner Nancy Colson will serve as Vice President. New Commissioners include Leslie Moore, Patricia Judd and Laurel Siegmund. Presently, Commissioner Pat Gallagher is serving as the Chair of the Public Art Committee and Ms. Colson is serving as the Chair for the Membership Committee The Visual Arts Committee is seeking a Chair. Ms. Elliot reviewed goals and priorities the Commission identified for 2008. The Commission desires to use 2008 to plan various events to celebrate the Arts Commission's 25th Anniversary in 2009. Cultural Arts Manager Laurie Rose encouraged Commissioners to attend Planning and Community Development Committee meetings when Arts Programs are on the agenda. Membership Committee Report Ms. Colson reported that the Membership Committee is currently seeking to fill 2 vacancies on the Arts Commission. Commissioners are encouraged to recruit community members. Ms. Colson also announced a call Committee membership. The Membership Committee is seeking members and the Visual Arts Committee is seeking a chair. Discussion followed regarding the assembly of a Performing Arts Committee. The Commission and Staff discussed the performing arts programs that will ensue in 2008 as well as the impact of the Auburn Avenue Theater on performing arts programming. Staff Report Ms. Rose presented the "2007 Year End Report for Cultural Arts Programs" and reviewed the goals set for 2007 and the work accomplished to meet those goals by the Arts Commission and Staff. The documents included goals for BRAVO, Public Art, Arts Commission, Auburn Avenue Theater, and the Visual Arts Programs. IV. Other Business Councilmember Rich Wagner reported on the progress of the new Community Center and the opportunity to integrate public artwork into the building. Discussion followed regarding next steps to select an artist for the design team. Ms. Colson reported that the Auburn Symphony Orchestra is presenting a Chamber Ensemble performing An Evening with Mozart & Ravel at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church on Sunday, January 27 at 4 p.m. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:35 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Megan Myers, Cultural Arts Specialist January 7, 2008, City of Auburn Arts Commission Meeting Minutes Page 2 of 2
