Tuesday, June 12, 2007
2:00 PM
Members Present: Ken Bradford, Tom Hikida, Fred Helser & Greg Dobbs
Staff Present: Craig Hudson & Lois Almeda
A. Call to Order - Chairperson Ken Bradford
B. Review of April 3, 2007 Minutes. Motion by Fred Helser and second by
Tom Hikida to accept April 3, 2007 Minutes.
C. Old Business:
Memorial Day Weekend - The weekend was very well attended. Due to
the large number of vehicles in attendance, it may be worth considering
asking for police assistance next year, particularly on Memorial Day. Un-
fortunately, we did have our first accident at the lower gate.
This was the first year that the entire Memorial Day service was video-
taped. The complete service will be viewable on Channel 21.
Many thanks to Tom Hikida for organizing the volunteer staffing again
this year. Also, thanks to all of the board members that volunteered and
for their input.
New Cemetery Brochures - A new layout was used this year and the
brochures turned out beautifully.
D. New Business:
Val Bain Property for Sale - The City is actively pursuing 34 acres that
are for sale. The available property is at the northwest boundary of the
cemetery. Since the bulk of the property is in a ravine, there are only six
or seven acres of usable land.
Marker Trimming - The cemetery staff will begin edging markers in the
surrounding areas of each new burial prior to the service. The condition of
the grass around the markers was the main concern from Memorial Day
visitors.
Request for Tree Replacement - Mrs. Esther Scarpelli wrote to the
Cemetery Board regarding replacement of a tree that was removed due to
the root system drastically interfering with multiple existing graves. Due
to the limited open space available, it was decided not to replace the tree.
There is not enough area to plant and leave the graves and gravestones
unobstructed.
E. Reports:
Columbarium Update - The interior niches are here and going in. The
trim and finish work will follow. The grand opening is scheduled for the
2°d week of July.
Budget Update - As of the end of May, the cemetery was $25,000 over
projected revenue. Grave sales once again, exceeded budget.
F. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 3:05 PM.
Respectfully submitted by Board Secretary
Lois Almeda
