Lewis, Mayor 25 West Main Street * Aubum WA 98001-4998 * www.cl.aubum.wa.us * 253-931-3000 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING Meeting Minutes of January 11, 2005 The regularly scheduled meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held January 11, 2005, in Resource Room #2 located on the second floor of Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street, Auburn, WA. The following members were in attendance. MEMBERS PRESENT: Dick Kammeyer, Chairman; Cyril Van Selus, Member; Gail Solberg, Secretary/Chief Examiner STAFF PRESENT: Commander Will Lathrop; Fire Chief Russ Vandver; Assistant City Attorney Joe Beck GUESTS: none ACTION: Chairman Kammeyer called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. Approval of December 14, 2004 Civil Service meeting minutes. Minutes were accepted as written. COMMISSION Cyril Van Selus nominated Dick Kammeyer for chairperson for the year of 2005; Dick Kammeyer seconded the nomination. Motion carried and Dick Kammeyer will be chairperson for 2005. POLICE DEPARTMENT Will Lathrop updated the recruiting of candidates as follows: 1 entry level candidate who is scheduled at the beginning of next month for the physical exam (the candidate failed the first time); 1 lateral candidate in the background process; and 5 entry level candidates in the background process; we plan to send out another 3 conditional offers to entry level candidates. Gail stated we have 2 candidates who have voluntarily removed themselves from the entry-level list (both accepted positions with other agencies). Will Lathrop stated that Chief Kelly is requesting to prepare the eligibility list testing for Commanders. Dick Kammeyer asked when the list expires and Gail stated that we currently do not have a list in place, however in the absence of a list we have the provisional rule. Joe Beck agreed that the provisional rule is in place to make a temporary appointment in the absence of a list and there is nothing in our rules that state we must have a list in place. AUBURN * MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED ~ FIRE DEPARTMENT Dick Kammeyer complimented the Fire Department on how they performed with the two fires last month. APPEALS: We received a letter from Eduardo Pereira who is asking for a hearing because he was turned down as a lateral police candidate. Gail will send a letter to Mr. Pereria stating he can appeal the decision to the Civil Service Commission during the regularly scheduled February meeting (February 8th). ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting adjourned at 3:50 p.m. cc: Commission Members Mayor Peter B.
