Lewis, Mayor 25 West Main Street * Auburn WA 98001-4998 * www.cl.auburn.wa.us * 253-931-3000 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING Meeting Minutes of Apri/12, 2005 The regularly scheduled meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held April 12, 2005, in Resource Room #2 located on the second floor of Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street, Auburn, WA. The following members were in attendance. MEMBERS PRESENT: Dick Kammeyer, Chairman; Cyril Van Selus, Member; Charles Booth, Member; Gail Solberg, Secretary/Chief Examiner STAFF PRESENT: Police Chief Jim Kelly; Fire Chief Russ Vandver; Assistant City Attorney Joe Beck GUESTS: none ACTION: Dick Kammeyer called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. Approval of March 8, 2005 Civil Service meeting minutes. Minutes were accepted as written. COMMISSION POLICE DEPARTMENT The Commander eligibility test was conducted on April 8th. We had three participants and all three passed. The candidates voluntarily waived the five-day waiting period by presenting a signed waiver to Civil Service; therefore the official list was posted on April 8th. This list is good for one year with the possibility of extending an additional year. Chief Kelly raised the issue of the Civil Service rule allowing entry-level applicants the appeal process. He requested the Commission examine whether or not it's a state requirement to allow the appeal process to external candidates (entry and lateral). Dick Kammeyer asked Gail to contact the Civil Service Attorney, Dejulio to receive clarity on the state requirements. FIRE DEPARTMENT Chief Vandver reported that the 2 new fire recruits have graduated from the Bates Fire Academy and are currently working at Station 31 as well as attending EMT school. They anticipate assigning them to a shift within the next two weeks. AUBURN * MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED APPEALS: Gail received a written statement from lateral applicant Kevin Williams rescinding his appeal to the Commission.
