Lewis, Mayor 25 West Main Street * Auburn WA 98001-4998 * www.auburnwa.gov * 253-931-3000 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING Meeting Minutes of November 8, 2005 The regularly scheduled meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held November 8, 2005, in Resource Room #2 located on the second floor of Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street, Auburn, WA. The following members were in attendance. MEMBERS PRESENT: Dick Kammeyer, Chairman; Charles Booth, Member; Cyril Van Selus, Member; Gail Solberg, Secretary/Chief Examiner STAFF PRESENT: Chief of Public Safety Jim Kelly; Deputy Fire Chief Mike Gerber; Joe Beck ,Assistant City Attorney;, Brenda Heineman, Director of HR/Risk Management GUESTS: none ACTION: Chairman Kammeyer called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. Approval of October 11, 2005 Civil Service meeting minutes. Minutes were accepted as written. COMMISSION POLICE DEPARTMENT Chief of Public Safety Kelly reported that 2 candidates (out of 3) passed the Sergeants test establishing a new list. Initially we had 7 apply but 4 withdrew prior to the test for various reasons. The top candidate from the list has been assigned to Sergeant on a temporary basis; we are not anticipating any additional openings for Sergeant at this time. Conducted an internal investigation on allegations against a Police Officer, the allegations were sustained and the decision was to terminate the Officer. Opened the recruitment for Entry-Level Police Officer, the written exam is scheduled for December 3, 2005 at Mt. Baker Middle School. We will be distributing a maximum of 250 applications. AUBURN * MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED FIRE DEPARTMENT Deputy Fire Chief Gerber reported we had a successful Entry-Level Firefighters exam on October 29, 2005 with approximately 350 participants. The tests have been sent out for scoring. Once the test scores are received letters will be distributed to all participants informing them whether they passed and are in the top 40, passed and are not in the top 40, or did not pass. It's possible we will have 4 open positions in the first quarter of 2006, due to anticipated retirements. Oral interviews are being scheduled for December 5,6, and 7, 2005, once complete the new eligibility list will be established. The Fire Mechanic is currently on disability and has indicated that if/when he comes back he will retire during the first quarter of 2006. . We need to start discussions of establishing a list for the Fire Marshal, will need to have a list by first quarter of 2006.
