COMMISSION
POLICE DEPARTMENT
Gail Solberg reported that the written exam for the entry-level police was conducted on
May 13, 2006. We had 67 participants in the written exam and are scheduling oral
boards for the top 40 for June 20, 21, and 22, 2006. Approximately 50 candidates
received a passing score on the written exam.
There was discussion about the decline in the number of candidates for entry-level
police positions. Chief Kelly reported that it's not just an issue within Auburn but that
many surrounding agencies are having the same problem.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
Solberg reported that the Fire Captain exam was conducted on May 23 and 24, 2006.
It was conducted in a fair and equitable manner. Chief Kelly stated that one individual
filed a grievance however he did not file it in the proper manner, therefore the union
was granted an additional 5 days to determine whether or not they wanted to grieve the
test. The union submitted a formal grievance within the 5 day period; however as of
June 13, 2006, they officially withdrew their grievance.
Booth motioned to accept the new Fire Captains list, Van Selus seconded; the motion
was ca'rried.
