CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING
Meeting Minutes of July 11, 2006
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held July 11,
2006, in Resource Room #2 located on the second floor of Auburn City Hall, 25 West
Main Street, Auburn, WA. The following members were in attendance.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Dick Kammeyer, Chairman; Charles Booth, Member; Cyril Van
Selus, Member
STAFF PRESENT: Chief of Public Safety Jim Kelly; Joe Beck, Assistant City Attorney;
Assistant Fire Chief Stan Laatsch; and Gail Solberg, Civil Service Examiner
ACTION:
Chairman Kammeyer called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.
Approval of June 13, 2006 Civil Service meeting minutes.
Minutes were accepted as written.
COMMISSION
POLICE DEPARTMENT
Gail Solberg reported that oral boards for entry-level police were conducted during the
month of June. The top 40 candidates from the written exam were interviewed and 10
candidates passed the oral board. Those 10 candidates establish our new entry-level
police list. Solberg also reported that we have extended conditional offers to the 10
candidates. The candidates are requested to return the personal history statement
within 3 days; if the personal history statement is not received back within a reasonable
amount of time we send a letter to the candidate rescinding our conditional offer.
Chief Kelly reported that we need to start the process of planning a new Sergeants test.
Booth moved that we start the process of establishing a new list, Van Selus seconded.
Motion was carried.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
Stan Laatch reported the Fire Department has made two temporary appointments: one
as Training Captain and one as a Fire Captain.
Laatsch also reported that Fire Marshall Dave Smith will be retiring July 17, 2006.
There is a current Fire Marshall list and we be starting the process to promote from the
list once retirement of Dave Smith is official.

There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting
adjourned at 3:40 p.m.
