CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING
Meeting Minutes of May 8, 2007
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held May 8,
2007, in Resource Room #2 located on the second floor of Auburn City Hall, 25 West
Main Street, Auburn, WA. The following members were in attendance.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Dick Kammeyer, Chairman; Cyril Van Selus, Member; Chuck
Booth, Member
STAFF PRESENT: Assistant City Attorney, Joe Beck; John Fletcher, Civil Service
Examiner Pro Tem; Jim Kelly, Chief of Police;
Eric Robertson, VRFA Administrator and Sarah Borden, Recruiting and Employment
Services Manager were also in attendance.
ACTION:
Chairman Kammeyer called the meeting to order at 3:36 p.m.
Approval of April 10, 2007 Civil Service meeting minutes.
Minutes were accepted as written.
COMMISSION
John Fletcher requested that the commission appoint Sarah Borden, Recruiting and
Employment Services Manager as the SecretarylChief Examiner. Kammeyer motioned
to accept the motion and Van Selus seconded. The motion was approved.
John Fletcher presented the names of three entry level police candidates for removal
from the standing list; all candidates were disqualified during the background process.
Van Selus motioned to accept the removal. Booth seconded. Motion was approved
and .carried.
John Fletcher then presented the new Entry Level Police Officer Civil Service List which
integrated the results of the previous oral board from April 25th, 2007. Van Selus
motioned to accept the list. Booth seconded. Motion was approved and carried.
John Fletcher then presented the name of the new Lateral Police Office on the Civil
Service List. Van Selus motioned to accept and booth seconded.

POLICE DEPARTMENT
Discussed that the rules have been re-written for the non -commissioned officers and
they should be presented next meeting.
John Fletcher reported that we are continuing with the open application process for
entry and lateral candidates. Written test will be held on May 21St and the oral boards
will be held at the end of May. Fletcher also reported that we have approximately 13
conditional offers out at the moment to meet the numbers need for the special
academy.
Jim Kelly reported that we were approved for additional funding for the police academy
on August 13th, 2007 and the police department is committed to having 8 recruits for
that class. We are fully staffed with our Police hiring and have hired 1 of the
supernumerary positions, Officer Luke Goethals, so there are now 6 remaining.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting
adjourned at 3:45 p.m. Van Selus motioned and Booth seconded. Motion accepted.
