CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING
Meeting Minutes of November 13, 2007
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held November
13, 2007, in Resource Room #2 located on the second floor of Auburn City Hall, 25
West Main Street, Auburn, WA. The following members were in attendance.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Dick Kammeyer, Chairman; Member; Chuck Booth, Member;
Cyril Van. Selus, Member.
STAFF PRESENT: Assistant City Attorney, Joseph Beck; John Fletcher, Civil Service
Examiner Pro Tem; Jim Kelly, Police Chief.
Julie Slevin, Secretary of Operations was also in attendance.
ACTION:
Chairman Kammeyer called the meeting to order at 3:38 p.m.
Approval of October 9, 2007 Civil Service meeting minutes.
Minutes were accepted as written.
COMMISSION
John Fletcher presented the new Entry Level Police Officer Civil Service List which
integrated the results of the previous oral board from October 24, 2007.
John Fletcher presented the new Lateral Police Officer Civil Service List which
integrated the results of the previous oral board from October 25, 2007. Booth
motioned to accept the Entry Level Police Officer List and Lateral Police Officer List.
Motion was seconded by Van Selus and accepted.

POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Kelly presented the next written exam test date for entry level police as well as
the next scheduled oral boards.
Chief Kelly presented number of conditional offers out to entry level police, lateral police
officer, and correctional officer candidates.
The promotional Sergeants exam will be taking place on January 17 & 18, 2008.
Anticipate the Commanders exam to take place in March 2008.
Chief Kelly discussed the temporary appointment of Sergeant Mark Wentworth to the
Commander position until the testing process takes place.
A hearing was conducted with Tom Love regarding his removal from the entry level
police officer eligibility list. All witnesses were sworn in prior to the start of the hearing.
The city indicated the cumulative reasons why Tom Love was removed from the entry
level police officer list. John Fletcher presented specific information from the
background process that led to the decision. Mr. Love presented his response to the
reasons given and provided additional information and explanations as to the reason for
his appeal.
After thorough review of the facts presented by the grievant the decision remained to
remove Tom Love from the entry level police officer eligibility list. Van Selus made the
motion, Booth seconded.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting
adjourned at 4:03 p.m.
