CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING
Meeting Minutes of December 11, 2007
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Civil Seniice Commission was held December
11, 2007, in Resource Room #2 located on the second floor of Auburn City Hall, 25
West Main Street, Auburn, WA. The following members were in attendance.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Dick Kammeyer, Chairman; Member; Chuck Booth, Member;
Cyril Van Selus, Member.
STAFF PRESENT: Assistant City Attorney, Joseph Beck; Sarah Borden, Civil Service
Examiner; Jim Kelly, Police Chief.
Julie Slevin, Secretary of Operations was also in attendance.
ACTION:
Chairman Kammeyer called the meeting to order at 3:39 p.m.
Approval of November 13, 2007 Civil Service meeting minutes.
• Minutes were accepted as written.
Sarah Borden presented the new Entry Level Police Officer Civil Service List which
integrated the results of the previous oral board from November 27, 2007.
• Entry list was adopted as published.
Sarah Borden presented the new Lateral Police Officer Civil Service List which
integrated the results of the previous oral board from November 27, 2007.
• Lateral list adopted as published.
Sarah Borden presented the Entry Level Correctional Officer List which integrated the
results of the previous oral board from November 6, 2007.
• Entry list was adopted as published.
Sarah Borden presented the Lateral Correctional Officer list which integrated the results
of the previous oral board from December 5, 2007.
• Lateral list was adopted as published.

POLICE DEPARTMENT
Sarah Borden presented the next written exam test date for entry level police as well as
the next scheduled oral boards.
Sarah Borden presented number of conditional offers out to entry level police, lateral
police officer, and correctional officer candidates.
The promotional Sergeants exam will be taking place on January 17 & 18, 2008.
Anticipate the Commanders exam to take place in March 2008.
• Nine (9) sergeants would be eligible to take the commanders test
• Thirty (30) officers would be eligible to take the sergeants test
A hearing was conducted with Ryan Rivers regarding his removal from the lateral level
police officer eligibility list. All witnesses were sworn in prior to the start of the hearing.
The city indicated the cumulative reasons why Ryan Rivers was removed from the
lateral level police officer list. Sarah Borden presented specific information from the
background process that led to the decision. Mr. Rivers presented his response to the
reasons given and provided additional information and explanations as to the reason for
his appeal.
After thorough review of the facts presented by the grievant the decision was made
continue the hearing with Mr. Rivers until the next regularly schedule meeting for
clarification regarding the shoplifting issue and any additional information the city may
present. Booth made the motion and Van Selus seconded..
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting
adjourned at 4:22 p.m.
