Lewis, Mayor 25 West Main Sheet * Auburn WA 98001-4998 * www.auburnwa.gov * 253-931-3000 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING Meeting Minutes of September 9, 2008 The regularly scheduled meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held September 9, 2008, in Resource Room #2 located on the second floor of Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street, Auburn, WA. The following members were in attendance. MEMBERS PRESENT: Dick Kammeyer, Chairman; Cyril Van Selus, Member; Chuck Booth, Member. STAFF PRESENT: Terry Mendoza, Civil Service Examiner Pro Tem; Jim Kelly, Police Chief; Dan Heid, City Attorney; and Sarah Borden, Secretary/Chief Civil Service Examiner. ACTION: Chairman Kammeyer called the meeting to order at 3:34 p.m. Approval of the August 12, 2008 Civil Service meeting minutes. • Minutes were accepted as written. Motion by Booth, Van Selus seconded. Terry Mendoza presented the new Entry Level Police Officer Civil Service Eligibility List which integrated the results of the previous oral boards from August 11-13, 2008. • Entry list was adopted as published. Motion by Booth, Van Selus seconded. Terry Mendoza presented the new Lateral Level Police Officer Civil Service Eligibility List which integrated the results of the previous oral boards from August 11-13, 2008. • Lateral list adopted as published. Motion by Van Selus, Booth seconded. Terry Mendoza presented the new Lateral Level Correctional Officer Civil Service Eligibility List which integrated the results of the previous oral boards from August 4, 2008. • Lateral list adopted as published. Motion by Booth, Van Selus seconded. Terry Mendoza presented the Parking Control Attendant Civil Service Eligibility List which integrated the results of the previous oral boards. • Parking Control Attendant list adopted as published. Lewis, Mayor 25 West Main Street * Auburn WA 98001-4998 * www.auburnwo.gov * 253-931-3000 The appeal submitted by Kyle McPherson regarding his removal from the Police Services Specialist Civil Service Eligibility list was discussed. The city indicated the reasons why Kyle McPherson was removed from the Police Services Specialist Civil Service Eligibility list and Terry Mendoza presented specific information from the background process that led to the decision. After a thorough review of the information presented by the grievant in his written appeal the decision was made to deny a hearing to Kyle McPherson regarding his removal from the Police Services Specialist Civil Service Eligibility list. Motioned by Booth, Van Selus seconded. POLICE DEPARTMENT: Terry Mendoza presented the next scheduled oral boards for entry and lateral police officers. Terry Mendoza presented the next scheduled oral boards for entry level correctional officers. Terry Mendoza presented the number of conditional offers out to entry level police, lateral level police, lateral level correctional officer, parking control attendant and police services specialist candidates. Chief Jim Kelly provided information to the Commission members regarding the current number of open police officer positions. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting adjourned at 3:42 p.m. cc: Commission Members Mayor Peter B.
