CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING
Meeting Minutes of April 11, 2006
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held April 11,
2006, in Resource Room #2 located on the second floor of Auburn City Hall, 25 West
Main Street, Auburn, WA. The following members were in attendance.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Dick Kammeyer, Chairman; Charles Booth, Member; Cyril Van
Selus, Member
STAFF PRESENT: Commander Mike Hirman; Assistant Fire Chief Stan Laatsch; Joe
Beck, Assistant City Attorney; Brenda Heineman, Director of Human Resources and
Marilyn Beeksma, Pro tem Civil Service Examiner
GUESTS: Clint Teem and Richard Shamblin
ACTION:
Chairman Kammeyer called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.
Approval of March 21, 2006 Civil Service meeting minutes.
Minutes were accepted as written.
COMMISSION
Kammeyer reported we have received a letter from an entry-level police candidate
requesting an appeal hearing in front of the Commission based on his conditional offer
being withdrawn. Booth made a motion to grant a hearing; Van Selus seconded the
motion.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
Hirman reported the Assistant Chief test will be conducted April 18, 2006. We also
opened application for Entry-level police April 10, 2006. A total of 250 applications will
be accepted. The written exam will be May 13, 2006.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
Laatsch reported they have two new firefighters Michael White and Jeremiah Mushen
who will be leaving for the Academy next week. The Fire Marshal exam was conducted
April 5, 2006 and are waiting for results to be posted. Laatsch also reported they are in
the initial stages of preparing the Fire Captain test scheduled for May 23 and 24, 2006.

APPEALS
Appeals for police applicants Clint Teem and Richard Shamblin were heard. Based on
the information presented by the applicants and staff the Commission voted to deny
their appeals.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting
adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
