V. DISCUSSION ITEMS
A. 2002 Budget Update
Finance Director Coleman reported that the City should expect to
see the impact of the September 11, 2001 incident regarding sales
tax revenue toward the end of November, 2001. It appears that the
SuperMall has not experienced as great a loss of sales as they
anticipated.
Vice Chair Lewis recommended that Director Coleman contact the
SuperMall Manager and Mike Morrisette of the Auburn Area
Chamber of Commerce for sales information. Mr. Morrisette is also
the Auburn Auto Dealers Association Manager.
Director Coleman stated that, although the economy has recovered
to the level it was prior to September 11, 2001, economists caution
that growth will continue much more slowly than during the 1990's.
Director Coleman reported that the cities of Renton, Tukwila, and
Burien have implemented a hiring freeze at this time. The City of
Burien has no plans of replacing any positions that are vacated by
current staff. The cities of Kent and Federal Way have not
implemented a hiring freeze. Federal Way plans to add a net of
four positions in their budget. The City of SeaTac is considering
possible cuts in their Police and Fire Departments.
VI. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the
meeting adjourned at 6:48 PM.
Approved the --.~'~'~ day of November, 2001.
