HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-07-2003II. AUBURN PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MINUTES Tuesday, January 7, 2003 Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Vicki Gilthvedt. Those members present in addition to Dr. Gilthvedt were Roger Thordarson, Jerry Butts, Paul Wohlheuter, and Pete Whittall. Bob Jones and Greg Clark were absent. Also in attendance were Parks and Recreation Director Daryl Faber, Planning and Development Manager Dan Scamporlina, and Parks Secretary Ann Fuqua. Minutes III. The minutes of the December, 2002 meeting were accepted as presented. Correspondence./Public Input Old Business A. Update on Lakeland Project The 15-acre park at Lakeland is nearing completion. The grass is up about 2 !/2 inches. The components for the Skatepark will be arriving in six to eight weeks. The play toy is also scheduled for delivery in two to three weeks. We are planning the grand opening for April or May. The ball fields will not be ready for play this year as we need to give them time to get established before they have organized play on them. A Naming Committee has been appointed to meet to discuss a proposed name, for the park. Once names are proposed, those names will be brought to the Park Board and then tbrwarded to Council. IV. IV. Update on Urban Forestry_ Program Mr. Scamporlina is moving forward with our plans for an urban forestry program. Puget Sound Energy contacted the City about the poplar trees in Fulmer Park that have grown into the power lines and roots are disrupting the neighboring sewer lines. PSE has offered to remove the trees and give us replacement trees that will not grow into the lines at maturity. We, will be having a public meeting with the neighbors this next month to let them know our plans and get their input. New Business mo Tour of the Parks and Recreation Facility The members of the Board were shown through the facility. Director's Report Mr. Faber reported that the Steelhead Club is planning a Super Senior Fishing Derby at Millpond Park. It should be a good event; even people in wheelchairs can get to the event and put a pole into the water. Page lof2 Park Board Minutes January 7, 2003 Page 2 of 2 Ve It was also reported that the County has transferred property to the City - Lea Hill Park, Aubumdale II, and the Jacobson Tree Farm. We will partner with Green River Community College to improve the fields at Lea Hill. We will be trading gym time at the college for use of the ball fields at Lea Hill.
