HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-14-2004 MINUTES OF PLANNING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE JUNE 14, 2004 The regular meeting of the Planning and Community Development Committee was held June 14, 2004 in the Conference Room 1. Those members in attendance were as follows: MEMBERS PRESENT: Sue Singer, Nancy Backus and Lynn Norman STAFF PRESENT: David Osaki, Daryl Faber, Mitzi McMahan, and Patti Zook The meeting was called to order by Committee Chair Singer at 5:00 p.m. ACTION: 1. Approval of Minutes of May 24, 2004 Meeting Councilmember Norman made a motion, seconded by Councilmember Backus, to approve the minutes. Chair Singer concurred. 2. Resolution No. 3738 – Gateway Design Planner McMahan provided information on the stakeholders’ work to date including meetings to look over gateway materials. The resolution approves the adoption of three designs. Councilmember Backus was impressed with the outcome based on previous submittals. Chair Singer wondered about signage for City facilities. Parks and Recreation Director Faber spoke about pending signage at Terminal Park and Sunset Park and implementation of new signage will be done over time. Planner McMahan spoke about modifications that could be done for placement at parks. Chair Singer wondered about the cost and spoke about developing standard design guidelines for park signage. Councilmember Norman spoke about need for consistency in City signage. Councilmember Norman made a motion, seconded by Councilmember Backus, to recommend approval. Chair Singer concurred. DISCUSSION 1. Cell Tower on Light Pole at Game Farm Park Parks and Recreation Director Faber reviewed his memorandum on the subject, the current situation, financial situation potential funding mechanism and staff recommendation. The Committee discussed this potential dedicated income stream to help with park improvements. Councilmember Norman and Councilmember Backus are supportive of the idea. Committee asked staff to come back with proposed code amendment to allow the use. 2. 2004 Comprehensive Plan Amendments Community Development Administrator Osaki advised that there are significant text amendments planned for this year’s process. For the new Committee members, he explained the relationship between the Comprehensive Plan map and the zoning map. Chair Singer requested that staff look at the th status of the arts policies and at the Auburn Way North and 277 triangle. OTHER MATTERS Chair Singer asked for status of the Park Plan and Parks and Recreation Director Faber said this should come to the Committee in July and a summary was previously distributed to the Committee. Parks and Recreation Director Faber said the spray pool at Les Gove Park is under construction and an open house is planned.
