CALL TO ORDER Chairman Roger Thordarson called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Conference Room, located on the first floor of Auburn City Hall, 25 West Main Street, Auburn, Washington. Committee members present were: Jim Chambers, Michael Pratum, Lonnie Tealer, Dirk Bidleman, and John Calnan. Also present during the meeting were: Transportation Manager Laura Philpot, Transportation Planner Joe Welsh, Transportation Planner/Grants Manager Tiffin Goodman, and Public Works Department Office Assistant Heather Bartlett. II. CONSENT AGENDA A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES It was moved by Roger Thordarson seconded by Michael Pratum that the Committee approve the Transportation, Transit, and Trails Committee minutes for March 26th, 2008. Motion carried. III. DISCUSSION AND INFORMATION B. CONTINUED REVIEW OF THE CITIZENS' ARTERIAL TASK FORCE REPORT Transportation Manager Philpot gave a synopsis of what the task force report includes for those who were not present at the previous meeting. Philpot's main focus was discussing how the City plans to receive funds for this project and what type of improvements will be done to the arterial streets. Member Tealer asked if the utility tax would stay implemented from here on out or just for the present year. Philpot responded stating that as of now it will be a continual tax, but it was written so that if state comes forward with funding for road maintenance the utility tax can be lifted. Jim Chambers asked that those Committee Members not present at the previous meeting be issued a copy of the Arterial Task Force Report. C. REVIEW CITY OF AUBURN COMPREHENSIVE TRANSPORTATION PLAN Transportation Planner/Grants Manager Goodman distributed hard copies of the Comprehensive Transportation Plan to the Committee as wetl as a copy of her presentation. Goodman asked that each Committee Member state their specific interests regarding transportation and the City and why they wanted to sit on this committee, so that she could make sure to discuss those areas of concern. Goodman discussed the different chapters in the Comprehensive Transportation Plan. Goodman stated that they are working with Metro/Pierce/Sound Transit to implement a shuttle from Lakeland to the Sounder during the morning and evening train schedule that would begin in February 2009. Tealer had several questions regarding senior citizens and whether they would be benefiting from this program. He stated that he would like to discuss these questions at a later date. COMMITTEE MEMBERS UPDATE ON BICYCLE INFORMATION Committee Member Calnan stated that he read in a news brief that the Auburn School District won an award for being one of the top 50 in the nation in the Safest Routes to School Program. Calnan also stated that Seattle would be holding a Pro Walk Pro Bike Conference in September, and that he would like to see the Transportation Department attend. Calnan also advised of an annual bike ride called Ride of Silence, the ride is held to honor those who are victims of bicycle and automobile accidents. Calnan stated that this year's ride would take place on May 21 St in Seattle, but that he has taken on the responsibility of organizing a smaller ride in the Kent/Auburn area. N. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before the Transportation, Transit, and Trails Committee, the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 a.m. Approved this 28th day of May, 2008.
