The meeting was cal led to order by Mayor Shaughnessy. Counci Imen present: Aaby, Lea, Kammeyer, Fitzsimmons, Sonnemann, and Gaines. Counci Imen absent: Knechtel. I CORRESPONDENCE CLf'., If,,\ r-GR DAMAGES A claim for damages against the City of Auburn in the amount of $5,000.00 fi led May 6, 1963, by Clarence Swanson, Myra H. Swanson, Virgi I Swanson and Ann M. Swanson was read. A claim for damages against the City of Auburn in the amount of $2,500.00 fi led t.\ay 6, 1963, by Virgi I Swanson and Ann N'.. Swanson was also read. 30th were for alleged damages to land owned by claimants caused by laying of sewer lines. COST OF OPERATION - ANIMAL CONTROL DIVISION A letter from Chief of Police, Hugh R. Darby, reported the cost of operation of the Animal Control Division for the year of 1963. This report pointed out how inadequate the faci Ii ties for housing dogs are at the present time, and recommended that if the city continues to service the towns of Kent and Enumc!aw, these cities each should be assessed not less than $2,400.00 per year. This matter was referred to the Police Committee for consideration. City Attorney, Robert Smythe, presented the Counci I with a pamphlet I isting dogs considered as hunting breeds. This pamphlet was referred to the Police Committee. I PARK I NG L. I. D. & GREGG APf'.RTN.ENTS A letter from Luther C. Martin informed the Planning Director and City Counci I that he no longer wished to participate in the parking L. I. D., after seeing the Gregg Apartment re-zoning matter abrupt Iy rejected by the Ci ty Counci I. PETITION TO REZONE IRA F. GREGG AND HELEN GREGG A petition to rezone from R-2 to R-4 property described as the south half of Lot rive (5), Lot fourteen (14), and the east 75 feet of Lot Thirteen (13), all in Clock Eight (8), French's First Addition to the Town of Slaughter (now Auburn), according to plat recorded in Volume 5 of Plats, page 53, records of King County, washington Auditor, al I situated in King County, Washington, was presented to the Counei I by Ira F. Gregg and Helen Gregg for approval. The petition was signed by eighteen owners of property lying within a 200 foot radius of the above described property giving their consent to the proposed re-zoning. The petition was referred to the Planning Commission. PETITION TO REZONE f.,\/\RK A. HEDMAN A petition to rezone property located at 720 to 730 12th Street Southeast from R-2 to C-I was presented to the Counci I by Mark A. Hedman for their approval. I The petition was referred to the Planning Commission. s. L. ROWLAND CONST. CO., INC. PROPOSeS SAN I TARY SEWERS FOR SHERM¡\N ACRES A letter from S. L. Rowland Const. Co., Inc. proposed the City enter into a contract with them to establish sanitary sewers within and leading from the area known as Sherman Acres, a new plat to be opened on top of East Hi I I, directly north of Forest Villa. GRADING & MAINTENANCE OF HEMLOCK STREET S.E. A letter from Marion Jenson, Ralph Goad, and Maurice Taylor granted the City of Auburn permission to grade and maintain Hemlock Street Southeast. This matter was referred to Street Committee. I LETTER CONMENDING GARBAGE DISPOSAL PICKUP A letter addressed to the City Hal I commended Shaw Disposal for their fine garbage disposal pickup. MUTUAL AID FIRE PROTECTION AGREEMENT BET\^/EEN "GSA" AND CITY OF AUBURN A mutual aid fire protection agreement between the United States of America, acting by and through the Administrator of General Services and the City of Auburn was presented to the Counci I for their approval. It was moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Sonnemann that the Mayor and City Clerk be instructed to sign said agreement with the General Services Administration. MOTION CARRIED FOUR PROGRESS ESTIMATES ON CITY SEWER PROJECT City Clerk, Elisabeth Heritage, read the fol lowing progress estimates up to Apri I 2~, 1963, as presented by Richard E. Wolff, Consulting Engineer. A. & M. Construction Equipment Company, Inc. Payment Due $ 14,560.32 I F. H. Field Construction Company Payment Due 6,776.83 w. A. N\cConnach i e Payment Due 4,929.78 Frank Coluccio Payment Due 110,700.54 It was moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Gaines that the City Clerk be instructed to draw warrants in payment of the above estimates as presented to the Counci I by Richard E. D. #148 Heisserman Construction Company Payment Due 5,978.90 It was moved by Lea and seconded by Fitzsimmons that the amount due on L.I .D. #145, L.I.D. #147, and L.I.D. tFl48 as presented to the Council by Clinton VI. It was moved by Kammeyer and seconded by Lea that the City Clerk be instructed to call for publ ic hearing on L.I .D. fFI44 & L.I .D. /1146 to be held June I, 1963, at 13:00 p. m. in the Counci I Chambers at the City Hal I, and that the Clerk be instructed to see that proper notices are directed to the affected property owners. A\OT ION CARR I ED WATER SUPERINTENDENT Tom Galton, \Vater Superintendent, reported that both reservoirs had been cleaned, and that they had repaired two breaks in line at head works. MOTION CARRIED OLD BUSINESS HORSES BEING KEPT IN CITY George Schuler, Planning Director, reported that Jack Lange, Sui Iding Inspector, had sent out notice in regard to horses being kept in the City limits. HAUGE VACATES CITY OWNED BUILDING Attorney Smythe reported that Hauge had vacated the bui Iding on Main Street now owned by the City of Auburn. NEW BUSINESS Mayor Shaughnessy asked the Counci I to confirm his appointment of Jack Lange as Sanitary Supervisor for the City of Auburn. It was moved by Gaines and seconded by Sonnemann that the Counci I Mayor's appointment of Jack Lange, as Sanitary Supervisor. confirm the MOTION CARRIE~ VALLEY PLANNI NG CONMI SS ION George Schuler, Planning Director, reported that the Val ley Planning Commission had started work on their budget for the coming year, and had discussed the duties of there newly formed organization. CALL FOR BIDS ON DEMOLITION OF HAUGE BUILDING It was moved by Gaines and seconded by Aaby that the City Clerk be instructed to cal I for bids on the demolition of the Hauge Sui Iding, bids to be opened May 20, 1963 at 4:00 p. m. in the Counci I Chambers at the City Hal I. MOTION CARRIED AUDIENCE SURFACING OF "B" STREET S.E. BETWEEN 12th & 14th Don Granger reported that property owners on "B" Street S.E. between 12th & 14th were desirous of having this portion of "B" Street oi I surfaced. Mayor Shaughnessy referred Don Granger to City Engineer, Clinton Cote', for further consultation and help on the project.
