The meeting was called to order by Mayor Gaines.
Counci Imen present: Hough, lea, Kline, Fitzsimmons, Calkins, Aaby and Sonnemann.
Minutes of the previous meeting held May 4, 1964 were approved as mai led and read.
PUBLIC HEARING - COMPREHENSIVE lAND USE PLAN
Mayor Gaines declared the public hearing open for the approval and adoptiòn.of a new I
Comprehensive land Use Plan for the City of Auburn.
Robert Smythe, City Attorney, recommended that section C be deleted from Article 6
and added to Article 5.
It was moved by Calkins and seconded by Hough that the Public Hearing on the Comprehensive
land Use Plann for the City of Auburn be closed.

It was moved by Sonnemann and seconded by Hough that the City Attorney be instructed
to draw up the necessary Ordinance to Implement the Comprehensive land Use Plan for the
City of Auburn, with the recommendation that section C be deleted from Article 6 and added
to Article 5.

PUBLIC HEARING - A. J. FRY SPECIAL PROPERTY USE
Mayor Gaines declared the public hearing open on the request of Mr. A. J. Fry and Assigns
for a Special Property Use on property at 19th St. S. E. for Apartment units and office center.
Richard Fordice stated he would be opposed to this Special Property Use if it sets a
precedent in the area.
It was moved by Calkins and seconded by Hough that the Public Hearing on the request I
of Mr. A. J. Fry and Assigns for a Special Property Use be closed.
MOTION CARRIED
It was moved by lea and seconded by Kline that the Counci I concur with the recommendation
of the Planning Commission and grant a Special Property Use on property described as the E!
of SW4 of NE4 of SW4, EXCEPT S 389.79' E 135' of wt of SW4 of NE4 of SW4 EXCEPT 389.79'j S 90'
of E4 of NW4 of NE4 of SW4 EXCEPT Co. Road al I in Section 19, Township 21 N, Range 5 EWM.
MOTION CARRIED
It was moved by Sonnemann and seconded by Kline that the City Attorney be instructed
to draw up the necessary Ordinance to Implement the granting of this Special Property Use.

BIDS - lES GOVE PARK
A letter from Bi I I Raven, Park Board Chairman stated it was the recommendation of the
Auburn City Park Board to reject al I bids for construction of the les Gove Park.
It was moved by Fitzsimmons and seconded by Sonnemann that the Council reject all
bids for construction of the les Gove Park.

instructed to return al I bid bonds and checks to bidders on the les Gove Park project.

Counci Iman Hough stated there were seventeen fires and two false alarms last
month.
PURCHASING COMMITTEE - RAY SONNEMANN
It was moved by Sonnemann and seconded by Lea that the City Clerk be instructed
to cal I for sealed bids to be received by the City Clerk of said City at her office in
the City Hal I on or before 8 p. m. Monday, June I, 1964, for the purchase of one four-
door Sedan and one carryall-van type wagon for the Engineering Department, specifications
for both vehicles to be obtained from the office of the City Clerk, and al I bids to be
in writing addressed to the Mayor and City Counci I of the City of Auburn and to be a
firm bid, the city counci I reserving the right to reject any and al I bids.

LICENSE COMMITTEE - BRIAN CALKINS
Counci Iman Calkins reported that the City Health Officer wi I I submit a
recommendation in regard to the pasturing of two horses at 924 M Street Southeast
at the next Counci I meeting.
STREET COMMITTEE - TED LEA

Counci Iman lea asked that action be withheld on the vacation of a portion of
IIHII Street S. Eo lying between 26th and 27th Street S. Eo for further study by the
Street Committee.
Counci Iman Lea suggested that al I property owners involved in the vacation of
a portion of liB" Street Southeast meet with the Street Committee and the City
Engineer in order to find a ~olution to the problem.
Mayor Gaines asked that this matter be put back into committee for another
week.

ENGINEER - HAL HAGESTAD

Mr. Hagestad reported that he has taken over supervision of the Water, Sewer,
Street, Planning, and Bui Iding Departments of the City. He listed the fol lowing
department heads: Water Department - John Hurt, Sewer Department - Jerry Keesee,
Planning Department - George Schuler, Bui Iding Department - Jack lange, under
his jurisdiction. He stated that staff meetings were being held every Monday morning,
and department employee meetings once a month.

"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, APPROVING AND CONFIRMING THE
ASSESSMENTS AND ASSESSMENT ROLL OF LOCAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO. 151, WHICH DISTRICT
HAS BEEN CREATED AND ESTABLISHED FOR THE PURPOSE OF IMPROVING PORTIONS OF A CERTAIN
STREET IN THE CITY OF AUBURN BY THE CONSTRUCTION OF CONCRETE CURB AND GUTTERS AS
PROVIDED BY ORDINANCE NO. 1632 OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, AND LEVYING AND ASSESSING I

IN THE MUNICIPAL PARK OF THE CITY OF AUBURN", be introduced.

Counci Iman Sonnemann reported the committee was not ready to cal I for bids on
the new dog pound at this time, but would be ready by the next counci I meeting.
A & M CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT COMPANY
Robert Smythe, City Attorney, stated he was planning to get together with
A & M Construction Equipment Company in regard to their obligation for work done
on 21st Street, 22nd Street and Enumclaw Highway, and wi I I report back at the next
counci I meeting.

ORDINANCE TO ACCLAIM SERVICES OF THE LATE
THOMAS E. BOLTON, WATER SUPERINTENDENT
It was moved by Sonnemann and seconded by Fitzsimmons that the City Attorney
be instructed to draw up an Ordinance to acclaim the services performed by the late
Thomas E. Bolton, Water Superintendent.

Mayor Gaines passed on an invitation to the Counci I to meet at the new Pay-N-Save
Store, May 21st, at 8:30 a. m.

MEETING
Mayor Gaines invited the Counci I to attend a meeting of the Suburban Mayors
which wi 1 I be a no-host dinner at the Elk's Club, May 22nd, at 6:30 p. m.
