Regular meeting of the City Counci I of the City of Auburn, held at 8:00 p. m. in
the Counci I Chambers at the City Hal I.
The meeting was cal led to order by Mayor Gaines.
Counci Imen present: Lea, Kline, Fitzsimmons, Calkins, Aaby and Sonnemann
Counci Iman absent: Hough.

Minutes of the previous meeting held May 18, 1964 were corrected to read: It
was moved by Sonnemann and seconded by Fitzsimmons that the City Attorney be instructed
to draw up a Resolution to acclaim the services performed by the late Thomas E. Bolton,
Water Superintendent. With this correction the minutes were approved as mai led.
PUBLIC HEARING - KLEIN VACATION
The Mayor declared the public hearing open on the petition of Reinhart Klein
and Ruth Klein, his wife, for vacation of a portion of the al ley situate between
East Main and 0 Sts. N. E.
A petition signed by 54 residents in the area objected to the requested vacation.
The fol lowing persons spoke in protest to the granting of this vacation: Robert
Klontz, Emi I Bitzer, Beulah Ri ley, Emma Laughlin, and C. R. Melvi I Ie.
Reinhart Klein said the only property to be blocked off would be his own.
Counci Iman Lea, Street Committee Chairman, reported the committee had met and
could see no justification for granting this vacation.
It was moved by Lea and seconded by Calkins that the petition of Reinhart Klein
and Ruth Klein, for vacation of a portion of the al ley situate between East Main and
o Sts. N. E. be denied.

Bids, including sales tax, were opened for purchase of one four-door sedan and one

CALL FOR BIDS - LES GOVE PARK
The City Park Board requested the City Clerk to cal I for bids for general cleanup,
rough and finish grading of the Les Gove Park, bids to be opened June 15, 1964, at 8 p. m.

It was moved by Fitzsimmons and seconded by Kline that the City Clerk cal I for sealed
bids to be received in her office on or before B p. m., Monday, June 15, 1964, for
general cleanup, and rough and finish grading, of Les Gave Park. Contract documents
to be obtained from the office of Richard Haag Associates, 2923 Fuhrman Avenue, Seattle
2, or from the City Clerk's Office, each bid to be accompanied by a bid bond, certified
check or cashiers check in amount not less than five percent of the amount of the bid.

SAFE AND SANE FIREWORKS - KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
Letter from Knights of Columbus requested permission for license to sel I Safe
and Sane Fireworks within the city limits.
Request turned over to the License Committee and Fire Chief for study.

directly in back of his store.

STATE OF WASHINGTON'S COUNCIL FOR CHILDREN
AND YOUTH
A letter from the State of Washington's Council for Children and Youth requested I
the city's endorsement of the $4.6 mi Ilion bond issue for the Chi Idren's institution
to be on the November bal lot. (Referendum No. 13)
This matter referred to Counci Iman Aaby, Counci Iman Lea, and Councilman Hough
to study and report back at the next Counci I Meeting.
ENGINEER'S PROGRESS REPORTS COAL CREEK PROJECT
Progress Estimate No.2 - Austin Construction Co. showed balance due at this time
less 15% retainage, $6,842.60.
It was moved by Fitzsimmons and seconded by Calkins that Austin Construction Company
be paid $6,842.60. The fol lowing rol I call vote was recorded: Fitzsimmons, yesj
Calkins, yes; Aaby, yes; Sonnemann, yes; Lea, yes; and Kline, yes.

Progress Estimate No.2 - John W. Schade showed balance due at this time less
15% retainage, $21,966.83.
It was moved by Fitzsimmons and seconded by Sonnemann that John W. Schade be paid
$21,966.83 balance due him at this time less the 15% retainage. The following roll cal I

CLAIM FOR DAMAGES - DALE H. DYKEMAN
A claim for damages was fi led by Dale H. Dykeman for $203.55 for injuries and
expenses incurred when he drove over a manhole on M St.
Referred to our Insurance Company and Engineer.
ZONE CHANGE APPLICATIONS
An application was received from M. B. Crannel for rezoning from R-3 to C-I
Commercial for property located at intersection of N. P. Tracks and Black Diamond
Highway.
An application was received from James M. and Sandra K. Chittenden for rezoning
from R-3 Residential to C-3 Commercial for property located on 8th S. E. between A
and C Sts.
An application was received from Robert L. Alexander for rezoning from A-I to I
M-I Industrial for property located on 27th N. W. adjacent to N. P. Rai Iroad tracks.
These applications were referred to the Planning Commission and Mayor Gaines
urged the Council to familiarize themselves with them.
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS MINUTES
Minutes of the public hearing held, May 25, 1964, at 7:30 p. m. by the City of
Auburn's Board of Adjustment were read.
