Regular meeting of the City Counci I of the City of Auburn, held at 8:00 p. m. in the
Counci I Chambers at the City Hal I.
Counci Imen present: Hoyt, Lea, Kline, Fitzsimmons, Calkins, Sonnemann and Aaby.
Minutes of the previous meeting held October 5, 1964 were corrected to read as
follows: ROLL C/\LL VOT[': on Ordinance No. 1729, Kline, Càlkins and Lea, YES; Fitzsimmons,
Aaby, Sonnemann, NO. \Vith this correction, the minutes were approved as mai led.
CORRESPONDENCE

The report and recommendations of the Planning Commission were read on the following
requests:
A Publ ic Hearing was held October 13, 1964 on the request of Joe Starkovich for a
Special Permit for a service station on the Enumclaw Highway between C and D Sts. S. E.
The Planning Commission held this request in abeyance.
The Auburn Planning Commission recommended that the request of Mr. E. Odegard to
rezone from R-I to R-3 property located in the vicinity of Hi-Crest Drive be denied.
It was moved by Sonnemann and seconded by Aaby that the City Attorney be instructed
to draw up the necessary Resolution cal ling for a public hearing to be held November 2, 1964
at 8:00 p. m. on the request of Mr. E. Odegard to rezone from R-I to R-3 property located
in the vicinity of Hi-Crest Drive.
MOTION CARRIED
The Auburn Planning Commission recommended that the request by Joe Starkovich for
the vacation of a portion of the al ley south of Enumclaw Highway between C and D Sts. S. E.
be denied.
It was moved by Calkins and seconded by Fitzsimmons that the Counci I concur with
the recommendation of the Planning Commission and deny the request of Joe Starkovich for
the vacation of a portion of the al ley south of Enumclaw Highway between C and D Sts. S. E.

I
A request was received from the Special Watershed Committee of the Association of
Washington Cities requesting City of Auburn to pass Resolution in favor of maintaining
present standards within their municipal watershed areas.
A letter was received requesting Counci I approval of letter to be sent the King
County Commissioners. To proceed with formation of a Green River Flood Control District.
It was moved by Kline and seconded by Calkins that the Mayor and City Clerk be
authorized to sign the petition to be sent the King County Commissioners as requested.
ROLL CALL VOTE. AI I Counci Imen voting YES.
MOTION CARRIED
Recommendations for approval of payments to Contractors were submitted by
Harold A. Hagestad, City Engineer, as fol lows:
Estimate No.4 showing amount due C. J. f<ockey Co. as of October 15, 1964, from
the Arterial Street Fund as $198.47.
It was moved by Lea and seconded by Kline that C. J. Rockey Company be paid
$198.47 as shown on Engineer's Estimate No.4. ROLL CALL VOTE. AI I Counci Imen voting
YES.
MOTION CARRIED
Estimate No.3 showing amount due Valley Cement Construction Company as of I
October 15, 1964, as $9,963.62 from L.I.D. No. 158 Fund, and $2357.50 from L.I.D. No. 156
Fund.
It was moved by Lea and seconded by Sonnemann that Val ley Cement Construction Company
be paid $9,963.62 as shown on Engineer's estimate No.3. ROLL CALL VOTE. AI I Counci Imen
voting YES.

It was moved by Sonnemann and seconded by Calkins that the City Attorney be
instructed to draw up the necessary Resolution cal ling for a public hearing to be
held November 16,1964, at 8 p. m. on the request of '/Jilliam H. Larberg and William
F. Hanson for the vacation of al ley between E. Main and First Sts. N. E. between D and
E Sts.

Division Number 2.
It was moved by Sonnemann and seconded by Calkins that the City Attorney be
instructed to draw up the necessary F?esolution call ing for a publ ic hearing to be held
November 16, 1964, at 8 p. m. on the petition of Peter T. Wagner, Yolanda M. Wagner,
\'!alton L. Hagen and Jacqueline D. Hagen to vacate a portion of right-of-way lying
between Lot t, Block 5, Lone's First Addition and Lot 17, Clock 12, C. D. Hi Ilman's
Auburndale Division Number 2.

Mayor Gaines referred this request to Harold Hagestad, City Engineer.
A letter from the Auburn Cemetery Board requested the bid for sprinkler system
in the new addition to the Cemetery be awarded Val ley Supply Cooperative.
It was moved by Sonnemann and seconded by Aaby that the bid for sprinkler
in the new addition to the Cemetery be awarded to Val ley Supply Cooperative at
price of $5,148.68 plus sales tax as recommended by the Auburn Cemetery Goard,
I\\ayor and City Clerk be authorized to sign contract for same. F;OLL CALL VOTE.

A'va Long, Attorney, submitted a petition to the Counci I signed by Eight Hundred
Sixty-five residents of the City of Auburn protesting the increases in Water and Sewer
rates.

Alva Long, Mrs. Armstrong, Barbara Campbel I, Joe Rosati, Don Strand and Mr. Krone
spoke in opposition to the increase of Water and Sewer rates. Howard Bothe' I requested
some further information.
Counci Iman Fitzsimmons, Robert Sims of the City's Bonding Company, and various
other Counci Imen explained the need for such increases.
It was moved by Fitzsimmons and seconded by Aaby that Ordinance. No. 1735 be
adopted. ROLL CALL VOTE. All Counci Imen voting YES.

to well site on "t:," Street Southeast, specifications to be obtained from the office
of the City Clerk, bids to be opened at 8 p. m. November 2, 1964.
