HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-13-1972 ;) 34 AUBURN, WASHINGTON MONDAY MARCH 13, 1972 Mayor Kersey called the continued Council Meeting to order at 8:00 P.M. Councilmen present: Councilman Gavey, Sonnemann, Shaughnessy, Darling, Holman, Fiedler and Lea. Mayor Kersey advised that the purpose of the continued meeting was to consider the lease with the Auburn Flight Service and award the contract for construction of the Flight Service Building. Councilman Shaughnessy reviewed for the Mayor and Council and audience the proposed draft lease for consideration. Councilman Shaughnessy pointed out several changes that should be made in the lease and suggested that the Council go over each item and make necessary changes or suggestions so that a lease can be prepared which is mutually agreeable between I the parti es. Councilman Fiedler pointed out several items in the lease which he was against and pointed out changes that should be made. The following people were present in the audience, voicing approval and disapproval of the issue under consideration; Donald Paulson, Martin Belles, Mervin Garrett, Bronco Christopherson, Bill Murphy, Joe Verso1enko, James Corbin, Jack Conrad, Kenneth Fitzsimmons, Ted Nickson, Bob Gaines and Bob Hoyt, wi th five bringing out the following specific objections, not enough money incoming, noise, land rent, large investment, no certification for federal funds, taxpayers' money, taxpayers' revenues, that we should get out, that it is a private airfield - not open to the public and the airport is downtown. Eight spoke in favor of the airport facilities, bringing that it was a good long-term investment, will make money, have flight service plus good addition to Auburn's business interest and it is very useful in bringing business into the City. The Council considered the points brought out by the audience and discussions were held with regard to suggested changes and the advantages and disadvantages of further airport development was discussed in detail after which the City Attorney suggested changes in the proposed lease on the Flight School facili ty. There being no further discussion and no further participation from the audience, it was moved by Shaughnessy, seconded by Sonnemann, that the lease agreement be resolved by the City Attorney and be presented to the Finance Committee prior to the March 16 meeting for their study and recommendation to the City Council to take affirmative action at the March 20 meeting. I ROLL CALL VOTE: Councilman Shaughnessy, Darling, Holman, Fiedler, Lea and Sonnemann voting YES. Councilman Gavey voting NO. MOTION CARRIED The City Council instructed the City Attorney to prepare resolution to show the City Council support of Chief Darby and that Chief Darby be retained by the City of Auburn if problems are not resolved in his appointment as Chief of the Renton Police Department.
