.Letter .regarding the F.A.A. site review of the Auburn Nunicipal l,irport. In order to
CQr:?ply vIi th their suggested request, the threshold lights ¡vill have to be relocated
sO'.lth of their existing location. This is due to existing trans¡nission j?O:'ler lines
encr:oaching upon the approach zone to the rum-lay. The Corr~rni ttee recommenàed that the
threshold lights be relocated as soon as poss.ible. It has been estimated by the Wasl7:ihgtO.Tl,
Appraisal Service Inc. that it will cost approximately $1,800 for appraisal of the neeåe
ai:c space easements. (Since the Commi ttee Neeting, extra inror!i1ation has indicated that
the relocation of the threshold lights may not be necessary).
It vIas moved by Darling, seconded by Holman, that authorization .be given to the Mayor
and City Clerk to sign a purchase order to Washington Appraisal Service Inc. for the
appraisal of the air space easement for approximately $1,800 to come out of th@.
Airport Construction Fund.

Councilman Fiedler voting NO.
Councilman Shaughnessy abstained.

The Committee questioned Mr. Chipperfield as to the status of the ne¡.¡ tenant for the
maintenance hangar. Mr. Chipperfield indicated that the new tenant is in the process
of moving in, but the agreement has not been drawn up by the Ci ty Attorney.
It was moved by Darling, seconded by Lea, that the City enter intö an agreement with
Collins Aviation of Seattle on a month to month operational basis at the Auburn Municipa
Airport for $200 a month.

PLlJ.NNING, BEAUTIFICATION & BUILDING CODES COMMITTEE - CH.liIRMAN DARLING
The Committee met on Novewher 14, 1972, at 7:30 P.M. George Schuler presented tbe~úe
with a prelirrdnary estimate on the cost of the Mini-Mall project. He then recommended
that due to the shortness of time that the Mini-Mall project be held over until after
the first of the year and that the Chamber of Commerce proceed ¡vi th their plans for
putting up a tree on said site Sunday, November 19, 1972. The Com~ittee recofl~ended
that we pay the bill for the remainder of the 29th Street SE tree pla1:ting pr.oject in
the amount of $80.45.
It was moved by Darling, seconded by Fiedler, that ~"e pay $80.45 from the Beautification
Fund for the 29th Street SE tree planting project.
ROLL CALL VOTE: All Councilmen voting YES.

The proposal to lease a lot approximately 150' X 300' for a multipurpose field adjacent
to the First Christian Church for $1.00 a year ."as presented to the Commi ttee by Len
C:.ha_::J0an and the Commi ttee recommends approval of this proposal. The Cammi ttee also
reco,,~ends approval of the proposal of the Auburn Parks & Recreation Department in
seeking authorizat.ion to make applicat,ion for a Federal Grant under Ti tlc III of the
OLDER ANERIC/¡iiS ACT. The funds vlould be used to develop a com[nehensive, full-time
Senior ci ti zen Project in Auòurn. The Corœni ttee also recommends that payment: be made
to Olson-Pichert-Bigno1d for the Master Plan of Brannan Park in the amount of $3,502.80,
to be pai d in Eull rrem the Ci t1)' s portion of Fon-lard Thrus t Funds,. since the project .

7: 30 P .£"1. Considerable discussion ¡vas held in relation· to the demolition of the
Green Hotel.
It was moved by Fiedler, seconded by Sonneman, that authorization be given for the
City to call for bids for demolition of the Green Hotel. and sale of mechanical e¡uipment.

Councilman Fiedler stated that Larry Scyler, Chief of Police, would like to have the
Police Department connected with the Sea-King Computer Information Center so they could
have more detailed information on ¡varrants, etc.

Meeting and that Bob Smythe presented more detailed information concerning the Pizza
Hut and he feels the Council should reconsider their action regarding the Pizza Hut.

Courrc.ilman Gavey introduced Dr. Ho;.¡ells of the Seventh Day J1dventists Church and he once
aC:d.in stated his feelings in regarc1 to the Pizza Hut and pointed out that he did not:. ¡·.'ant 1
t~ see it located so near the Church. Councilman Gavey then voiced his opposi tion to
the oroposed location of the Pizza Hut. Councilman Sonnemann introduced Mr. Soy the
2nd ~sk~d him to present some of the informaUon to the Council~ NI. Smythe stated that
the Pizza Hut is a family style restaurant and approximately 10% of the monies are related
to consu.mpt.ion of beer. It was also pointed out that the Pizza Hut felt that the petition
that had been signed opposing the proposed location Í'/as ambiguous and the people ,.,ho
had sianed it did not really kno;v the facts. Councilman DarLing stated that he would
like t; ask the Council to seriously think about the location in regard to safety,

Mayor Kersey announced that .í t is a State La¡-, that a Public Hearing be held on DeC2T':'her
.for the Preliminary Budget; hot',ever, the meeting wi II be continued to Dece[[1.ber 4, 1972,
because four of our Councilmen will be attending the National League of Cities Meeting
in Indianapolis and there would not be a quorum.

on December 19, 1972.
