Mr. Raven asked that hr:' not be forced to pay for the broken sidewalk on 3rd Strercat N.W.' which adjoins h.is business property since he felt it was an enga:necring problem. A1.so, he asked that a rolled curbing be installed between t_he existing dr..iveway on 3rd and A Street since the driveway ,was not made wide enough and not put: in the proper place as agreed to on the preliminary plans and would have to be relocated and made wider. Councilman Lea, chairman of the street committee, explained what had been done through the strec.~t committc~Ea to resolve the driveway problem. He stated that a driveway had been granted on "A" St. N.W. and that a letter had been sent to Mr. Raven denying the request to establ.zsh 'a rolled curb. He expressed his hope that the council would not act oui- of conunitt~>e an this matter. Councilman Hitchcock, street comm.i.ttee member, _stated what Mr. Lea had said was true to fact and t_he romm.ittee had already made' t_he decision. H.itchco<:k asked if it was not an existing policy for property owners wha wanted a-= thicker si~lc~wal~ than the city required to pay the difference. Pat Ne.~vins replied the prod>dure is to replace in kind and if the-owner wanted thicker cement or a wider driveway then they would be required to pay the difference. Also, 1Ni'. Nevins noted he .had not had an opportunity to review Mr. Raven's letter but it __ appeared tl:rst Mr. Raven had not been given a driveway on "A" St. S.W. so he wanted one on 3rd Street. Flechs_iq stated he felt the Engineering Department should respond to the council. It appeared that a 6 inch s.i.dewalk had been replaced by a 4 inch sidewalk. last Nc~virr5 resporx3td that to th~:~ best of his knowledge the sidewalk had always been r..~, „~_, . r.W I . -----, ~.m -1- si AUBURN,-WA5HINGTON_,T___-_ _._~~_....._ MONDAY :_^~`__. ._ JULY 17, 1978 4 inches. Mrs. Raven, speaking for her husband, asked if there could be an investigation. She stated that the "A" Str.c:c~t & 3rd Street problems were two different issues. She said the.rca was no way they could keep off the 3rd Street sidewalk and that they had thought the cement sidewalk was the same width as was there before. Roegner stated it appeared someone from staff or council not on either side should look into the matter.. Flechsig responded that he felt the Public Works. director should investigate the en ti re matter. w..~..~ It was moved by F1eclrsi.g, seconded by Hitchcock, to refer the Raven matter to Pat Nevins for a report vy him back to the city council.
