HomeMy WebLinkAbout5975 ORDINANCE NO.5 9 7 5 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, ADJUSTING THE SALARY FOR THE CITY OF AUBURN MAYOR WHEREAS, the City of Auburn is organized as a Mayor/Council form of government pursuant to Chapter 35A.12 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW); and WHEREAS, as such, the Mayor of the City serves as the chief executive officer of the City; and WHEREAS, different than other cities with Mayor/Council forms of government, the City of Auburn does not employ a City Administrator or City Supervisor (an administrative official working directly for the Mayor to address administrative duties and functions), and, in fact, the City of Auburn Mayor serves in that mayor capacity as a full-time position; and WHEREAS, in comparison with the salaries available to other mayors in Mayor/Council forms of government in the South King County Region, it appears that the salary for the Mayor is lower than that of a number of neighboring cities; and WHEREAS, the salary for the Mayor has also, not been adjusted for a number of years; not withstanding the fact that during the last number of years, the position of mayor has taken on a number of other responsibilities that have increased the administrative duties and functions handled by the mayoral position; and Ordinance No. 5975 December 13, 2005 Page 1 WHEREAS, the City Council feels that it is appropriate that the position of mayor be adjusted to address some of the increased work loads and to provide closer parity with other positions, particularly in light of the amount of work that is handled by the mayor's position. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN as Follows: Section 1. That the salary for the mayor, commencing January 1, 2006, shall be adjusted by a 3 percent increase over and above the salary rate that would otherwise be provided (as included in the 2006 budget document and as reflective of cost of living increases), so that the monthly salary would be increased to $9,362.62 per month, reflecting a $265.63 increase per month, after other adjustments. Section 2. That this Ordinance shall be a non-codified ordinance of the City of Auburn. Section 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to implement such administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directions of this legislation. Section 4. The provisions of this ordinance are declared to be separate and severable. The invalidity of any clause, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section or portion of this Ordinance, or the invalidity of the application thereof to any person or circumstance shall not affect the validity of the remainder of this ordinance, or the validity of its application to other persons or circumstances. Section 5. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days from and after its passage, approval and publication as provided by law, and on January 1, 2006.
