A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, OPPOSING HOUSE BILL 170 AND

WHICH WOULD ESTABLISH A STATE WIDE SYSTEM OF LIBRARIES THAT WOULD REMOVE
ALL LOCAL CONTROL FROM LOCAL LIBRARY UiVITS.
WHEREAS, House Bill 170 and Senate Bill 2166 have been introduced into the
1973 Session of the Washington State Legislature which bills would abolish
municipal, rural county and regional library districts and place those districts
under full State funding and control with no assumption of bonded indebtedness
by the State; and,
WHEREAS, The City of Auburn would then have to continue to provide basic
library funding from local tax sources for its municipal library, unless in the

to get full State funding, and in that event, the State would have no obligation to
assume or pay the bonded indebtedness of the Auburn Municipal Library facility; and,

of the Legislature of the State of Washington, of the opposition of the City of
Auburn, Washington, to House Bill 170 and Senate Bill 2166 and urge that the
existing law be retained which would leave control of local library units with
the local municipalities involved.
