A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, EXPRESSING
THE OPPOSITION OF THE AUBURN CITY COUNCIL TO SUBSTITUTE SENATE BILL 2266
WHICH WOULD DRASTICALLY INCREASE THE FINANCIAL BURDENS UPON CITIES AND
EMPLOYEE GROUPS UNDER THE WASHINGTON STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT FIRE FIGHTERS.
PENSION SYSTEM.
WHEREAS, the Auburn City Council has been advised that Substitute Senate
Bi11 2266 has been introduced in the Washington State Legislature, which bill
if passed would drastically increase the financial costs to all cities to support
the Washington State Law Enforcement and Fire Fighters Pension and Disability System;
and
WHEREAS, when said Law Enforcement and Fire Fighters Pension System was
originally created by the State Legislature the Cities received assurance that
all unfunded liabilities created by said legislation or any other section thereof
would be funded by necessary appropriation by the Washington State Legislature; and
WHEREAS, it is the unanimous opinion of the City Council of the City of
Auburn, Washington, that passage of said Substitute Senate Bill 2266 will be
contrary to the interests of the citizens of the-.City of Auburn, and also the
employee groups that might receive benefits under such expanded legislation;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, IN A
REGULAR MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED HEREWITH instructs the Honorable STANLEY P. KERSEY,
Mayor of the City of Auburn, Washington, to immediately send a certified copy of
this. Resolution to the appropriate Washington State Legislators and to use every
lawful means to advise all members of the Washington State Legislature and the
Governor of the State of Washington, of the dangers and unfunded liabilities
inherent in said Senate Substitute Bill 2266.
PASSED this 2nd day of April, 1973.
