HomeMy WebLinkAbout25551 RESOLUTION NO. 2 5 5 5 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, SETTING FORTH 3 POLICY CONSIDERATIONS AND PROCEDURES RELATING TO THE NAMING OF PUBLIC PARK PROPERTY AND FACILITIES. 4 5 WHEREAS, the City Council believes that uniform rules 6 should govern naming of parks, recreation, and other public 7 facilities, hereinafter City public facilities; and 8 WHEREAS, the City Council further believes that the 9 setting forth by resolution, certain considerations and ]0 procedures governing and regulating the naming of City public 11 facilities is in the public interest; 12 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, AS FOLLOWS: 14 SECTION 1. Selection of names to be used to designate ]5 City public facilities shall be based upon the relationship of 16 that parcel of land or facility to one of several criteria: ]7 1. Neighborhood, geographic, or common usage or referral 18 identification; 19 2. A historical figure, place, event, or other instance 20 of historical or cultural significance; - 21 3. Natural or geological features; 22 4. An individual (living or deceased) who has made a 23 significant land and/or monetary contribution to the park system or who has had such contribution made "in 25 26 R~olution No. 2555 September 8, 1994 Page 1 1 memoriam" with the name stipulated as a condition of donation. Land dedicated for parks as a result of 4 mitigation agreement(s) shall not be considered a donation or contribution. 5 5. An individual (living or deceased) who has contributed outstanding civic service to the City, 7 8 community, or City government. A period of at least one year shall expire before naming of a park or 9 10 facility honoring a deceased person. SECTION 2. DESIGNATION OF NAME BY CITY COUNCIL. The 11 12 City Council shall name public parks, recreation land, or other facilities by official action of the Council. In 13 14 selecting a name for a City public facility, the Council shall consider the written recommendations of the appropriate City 15 board or commission which shall be responsible for 16 solicitation of public input from individuals and 17 18 organizations. Such written recommendation shall outline the 19 supporting rationale, including a statement describing how the 20 proposed name(s) meet the five criteria included in Section 1. 21 SECTION 3. NAMING OF INTERIOR FEATURES OR FACILITIES. 22 The interior features and/or facilities of a City public 23 facility may be identified/designated by names other than that 24 of the facility itself. Names selected shall be subject to 25 R~olution No. 2555 September 8, 1~4 Page 2 1 criteria designated in Section 1 and the selection process outlined in Section 2. 3 SECTION 4. NAME PERMANENCE. A City public facility 4 should be named with the intent that the name will be 5 permanent. SECTION 5. SIGNING.
