HomeMy WebLinkAbout27991 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 RESOLUTION NO. 2 7 9 9 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, SUPPORTING THE LOCATION OF AN AMTRAK STATION IN THE CITY OF AUBURN. WHEREAS, Auburn has become a regional transportation center served by major freeways and is well positioned to serve the South King/North Pierce County area with passenger rail; and WHEREAS, the SuperMall of the Great Northwest, Emerald Downs thoroughbred racetrack, and the Muckleshoot Casino are potential AMTRAK destinations; and WHEREAS, the City of Auburn is designated to receive Regional Transit Authority (RTA) commuter rail service and a regional transit center; and WHEREAS, the Auburn City Council supports a balanced and comprehensive transportation system for all who live in, work in, or visit the City of Auburn and the Puget Sound region; and Resolution No. 2799 January 9, 1997 Page 1 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 WHEREAS, the City of Auburn conducted a Commuter Rail Station Sitin9 Study which designated the City's preferred location for a rail station and was adopted by the City Council in Resolution No. 2581 on December 19, 1994; and WHEREAS, the City of Auburn is undertakin9 a study to update the Auburn Downtown Plan in preparation for construction of a regional transit center; and WHEREAS, Auburn wishes to include an AMTRAK station in such plans and to provide the necessary facilities to accomplish the location of the station; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, IN A REGULAR MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED, HEREWITH RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: ~ The City Council of the City of Auburn supports inclusion of facilities to support AMTRAK service. ~ The City Council of the City of Auburn supports resumption of AMTRAK service to Auburn.
