HomeMy WebLinkAbout3120 RESOLUTION NO. 3 '! 2 0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, TAKING A POSITION OF OPPOSITION TO I 695 TAX LIMITATION AND MOTOR VEHICLE EXCISE TAX INITIATIVE. WHEREAS, on November 2, 1999, Aubum voters will be asked to consider Initiative 695, a measure that would repeal the Motor Vehicle Excise Tax statute and enact a $30.00 license tab fee charge for motor vehicles; and, WHEREAS, 1-695 will also require cities and other jurisdictions to submit increases in fees or other monetary charges to voter approval at the polls; and, WHEREAS, a report of the Washington State Office of Fiscal Management indicates passage of 1-695 would result in the following reductions in revenue for the City of Auburn in year 2000: General Fund, $9,843; Criminal Justice, $34,557; City Police and Fire protection, $405,175; subsequent years reductions would be in excess of $625,000 annually; and, WHEREAS, other adjustments that will affect Auburn citizens include a statewide projected transportation reduction of approximately $1.1 billion in the 1999-2000 biennial budget, which will in turn result in cancellation or substantial delay of numerous local and regional road maintenance and improvement projects, including the 3~d Street S.W. and 277th separated railroad crossings, Resolution 3120 September 29, 1999 Page 1 SR 167 improvements, 277th corridor construction, and Hwy. 18 completion; and, WHEREAS, the State Public Health Service, which serves the City of Auburn through the Seattle-King County Health Department will lose annual revenues of $25.5 million. WHEREAS, the City of Auburn has given due public notice regarding consideration of a position on the Initiative, including the number and title of the proposition, and has allowed equal time for the expression of opposing views; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, IN A REGULAR MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED, HEREWITH RESOLVES THAT Section 1. The City Council of the City of Auburn, King County, Washington, takes an official position in opposition to Initiative 695. DATED and SIGNED this 4th day of October, 1999. CITY OF AUBURN CHARLES A.
