HomeMy WebLinkAbout3256 RESOLUTION NO. 3256 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, TO PURSUE DISCUSSIONS WITH REGARD TO BECOMING FINANCIAL PARTNERS TO CONSTRUCT AN AUBURN COMMUNITY CENTER/YMCA. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, IN A REGULAR MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED, HEREBY RESOLVES THAT: WHEREAS, the Auburn Valley branch of the YMCA of Greater Seattle has provided services and programming to the Aubum community since 1962 and is committed to continued and expanded services and programming for citizens of Auburn and the surrounding areas; WHEREAS, the Auburn Valley branch of the YMCA of Greater Seattle has identified critical needs in the Auburn valley community through a Community Leaders Survey that uniquely meets the program objectives and operating principles of the YMCA; WHEREAS, both the City of Auburn and the Auburn Branch of the YMCA of Greater Seattle desire to build a center to meet additional needs of Auburn residents for health and wellness, indoor recreation, and youth programs; WHEREAS, the YMCA of Greater Seattle is in a unique position to provide partial capital funding toward an expanded facility to serve as a YMCA/City of Aubum community center; Resolution No. 3256 August 16, 2000 Page I of 3 WHEREAS, the YMCA of Greater Seattle is in a unique position to operate and maintain a facility that would meet additional needs of the citizens of Auburn for health and wellness, indoor recreation, and youth programs; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, IN A REGULAR MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED, HEREWITH RESOLVE THAT: Section 1. The City of Auburn will actively pursue discussions with regard to becoming financial partners with the Auburn Valley Branch of the YMCA of Greater Seattle to construct an Auburn Community Center/YMCA to be operated and maintained by the YMCA. Section 2. The City of Aubum's financial participation is contingent on the resolution of current financial commitments and the availability of adequate reserves or bonding capacity. Section 3. The City of Auburn will endeavor to make a final decision on fiscal and organizational agreements by December 31, 2000. Section 4. The City of Auburn shall designate staff to work with YMCA staff to prepare an agreement for this partnership. Section 5. The City of Auburn and the Auburn Branch of the YMCA of Greater Seattle agree that the desired date that the agreement will be approved by both parties is before December 31, 2000. The Mayor is hereby authorized to implement such administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directives of this legislation. DATED AND SIGNED this _r2l 7 day of August, 2000.
