A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OPPOSING INITIATIVE
1-790, WHICH CHANGES THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE
LEOFF 2 PENSION PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the City of Auburn has reviewed Initiative 790, which
proposed to "give management of the retirement program (LEOFF 2) to the
people whose lives are directly affected by it..."; and
WHEREAS, the LEOFF 2 pension fund is currently run by state
appointed boards, along with the State Actuary, in determining said pension
administration; and
WHEREAS, the Auburn City Council believes the current structure and
administration of the LEOFF 2 pension program is well-run and provides for
superior retirement benefits to the affected employees of Law Enforcement and
Fire Departments; and
WHEREAS, the Auburn City Council greatly appreciates the law
enforcement officers and fire fighters and the work that they do, and believes
Initiative 790 will displace funds that are badly needed for current police and fire
services; and
WHEREAS, Initiative 790 is scheduled to go before the qualified electors
of Washington State on November 5, 2002
WHEREAS, if passed Initiative 790 will have a devastating impact on the
City's limited resources

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AUBURN, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES as follows:
Section 1. The Auburn City Council believes it is in the best financial
interests of our citizens to oppose the passage of Initiative 790. The Auburn
City Council concurs with the recommendation of the Association of
Washington Cities Board in! opposing this well-meaning but flawed initiative.
