HomeMy WebLinkAbout3747 RESOLUTION NO. 3747 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, EXPRESSING COUNCIL SUPPORT FOR THE AUBURN ENVIRONMENTAL PARK PROJECT TO BE LOCATED IN THE WEST-CENTRAL PORTION OF THE CITY WITHIN THE AREA NORTH OF WEST MAIN STREET AND SOUTH OF 15TH STREET NORTHWEST BETWEEN STATE ROUTE 167 AND THE INTERURBAN TRAIL WHEREAS, the area north of West Main Street and south of 15th Street NW between SR 167 and the Interurban Trail includes several large undeveloped parcels containing wetlands connected with Mill Creek; and WHEREAS, this area offers the potential to create a unified large open space complex in the heart of a City and adjacent to a major highway and recreational trail; and WHEREAS, this open space complex has been commonly referred to as the Auburn Environmental Park; and WHEREAS, the Auburn Environmental Park provides multiple opportunities for public benefit including improved water quality, stormwater management, enhanced wetland and wildlife habitat, visual enhancement, improved ~ctive and passive recreational and public education; and WHEREAS, the Auburn Environmental Park effort provides opportunities for broad public involvement and strengthening of the community; and --------------------------- Resolution No. 3747 July 22, 2004 Page 1 WHEREAS, implementation of the Auburn Environmental Park is consistent with the vision for the City set forth by the City Council; NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, IN A REGULAR MEETING DULY ASSEMBLED, HEREWITH RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council of the City of Auburn hereby affirms its support for the Auburn Environmental Park and its objectives. Section 2. The Mayor is hereby authorized to direct staff to initiate studies, property acquisition, solicit public and agency support, pursue grant and private financing mechanisms as may be appropriate and obtain necessary permits. The Mayor will also keep the Council informed as to progress towards creating the Auburn Environmental Park and bring forward funding requests. Section 3.
