HomeMy WebLinkAbout01 RESOLUTION 3831 RESOLUTION NO.3 8 3 1 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, RECOMMENDING APPROVAL OF THE 2005 PARKS, RECREATION AND OPEN SPACE PLAN WHEREAS, the City of Auburn adopted a Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan in 1997, establishing the intent of the citizens to develop, protect, and maintain a comprehensive system of trails, open space, recreation, and park facilities for current residents and for future generations; and WHEREAS, the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan is necessary to comply with grant-funding requirements; and WHEREAS, the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan update process included holding public meetings, and conducting a community attitude and interest survey; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to ensure that public park facilities and services support future recreation needs for its citizens; and WHEREAS, the adoption of a Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan directs staff to acquire park land, and to develop, operate, and maintain existing and future parks and recreation facilities; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES as follows: Section 1. The City Council hereby approves the 2005 Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan as attached hereto identified as Exhibit A and incorporated herein by this reference. --------------------------- Resolution No. 3831 February 22, 2005 Page 1 Section 2. The Mayor is hereby authorized to implement administrative procedures necessary to carry out the directives of this legislation. Section 3. Lewis, Mayor Daryl Faber, Director of Parks and Recreation WASHINGTON www.ci.aubum.wa.us Dear Council Member and Community, It has been seven years since Auburn has updated the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan. Since that time over 74.5 acres of parkland and open space has been added to our system. However the demand for neighborhood parks, trail systems and recreation programs and other opportunities continues to grow. Finding the needed financial resources has become a challenge, resulting in a search for new funding sources, new ways of developing parks and new partners to share the cost as well as deliver the services. Great effort has been expended into the revision of the 1997 plan. This document is a revision of our current plan. All six lAC (State of Washington Interagency for Outdoor Recreation) «required Plan Elements" are incorporated into this plan including: · Goals and Objectives · Inventory · Public Involvement · Demand and Needs Analysis · Capital Improvement Program · Adoption .e planning process for this study consisted of four steps · Collect relative information on the community and assess its impact on recreation activity · Assess the recreation and cultural needs in the auburn area. · Develop plan recommendations for improving existing parks and facilities · Develop a funding strategy via a Parks Improvement Program and Capital Improvement Program Citizens of the City of Auburn are very proud of their parks and are eager participates in recreation activities as well as cultural events. We as staff are dedicated to improving our existing facilities as well as ensuring that the parks, arts and recreation needs are met in the years to come.
