Dear Council Member and Community,
It has been seven years since Auburn has updated the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan. Since that time over
74.5 acres of parkland and open space has been added to our system. However the demand for neighborhood parks,
trail systems and recreation programs and other opportunities continues to grow. Finding the needed financial resources
has become a challenge, resulting in a search for new funding sources, new ways of developing parks and new partners
to share the cost as well as deliver the services.
Great effort has been expended into the revision of the 1997 plan. This document is a revision of our current plan. All
six lAC (State of Washington Interagency for Outdoor Recreation) «required Plan Elements" are incorporated into this
plan including:
· Goals and Objectives
· Inventory
· Public Involvement
· Demand and Needs Analysis
· Capital Improvement Program
· Adoption
.e planning process for this study consisted of four steps
· Collect relative information on the community and assess its impact on recreation activity
· Assess the recreation and cultural needs in the auburn area.
· Develop plan recommendations for improving existing parks and facilities
· Develop a funding strategy via a Parks Improvement Program and Capital Improvement Program
Citizens of the City of Auburn are very proud of their parks and are eager participates in recreation activities as well as
cultural events. We as staff are dedicated to improving our existing facilities as well as ensuring that the parks, arts and
recreation needs are met in the years to come.
