HomeMy WebLinkAbout4175RESOLUTION NO. 4 1 7 5 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, DECLARING AN EMERGENCY WITH RESPECT TO REPLACEMENT OF A TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT THE INTERSECTION OF AUBURN WAY NORTH AND FIRST STREET NE WHEREAS, one of the traffic signals at the intersection of Auburn Way North and First Street NE was hit by a truck, bending the pole supporting the signal and causing unknown damage to the base of that pole; and WHEREAS, to protect the public safety, the damaged pole, and possibly the base as well, must be replaced as soon as feasibly possible; and WHEREAS, the signal cannot be removed from such a busy arterial intersection without causing major traffic disruptions to a significant area of the City's downtown; and WHEREAS, removal of the signal and pole to determine the extent of the damage to the base, and then to repair or replace the base, could place that signal out of service for a number of days; and WHEREAS, the most efficient way to effect the repair without disrupting traffic is to place a signal on a new base and pole adjacent to the existing signal and then to remove the existing signal, pole, and base. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, HEREBY RESOLVES as follows: Section 1. That the City needs to enter into a contract immediately to replace the damaged traffic signal at the intersection of Auburn Way North and Resolution No. 4175 April 5, 2007 Page 1 of 2 First Street NE, and there is not sufficient time to enable the City to go through the typical bidding and contracting process. Section 2. That the Mayor is authorized to negotiate and enter into contracts with qualified contractors and construction service providers to effect the replacement of the damaged traffic signal at the intersection of Auburn Way North and First Street NE.
