A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, STATING THE
CITY COUNCIL'S SUPPORT FOR THE PROPOSAL
TO CHANGE KING COUNTY ELECTIVE OFFICES,
INCLUDING SPECIFICALLY, THE KING COUNTY
EXECUTIVE AND THE KING COUNTY COUNCIL
POSITIONS TO NON PARTISAN POSITIONS
WHEREAS, King County Council Member Peter von Reichbauer
introduced a charter amendment to the King County Council that would give the
voters the opportunity to change the designation of certain political offices in the
County from partisan to non partisan; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Auburn concur with
the sentiment that most of what local government does, has nothing to do with
partisan politics, and the concerns that address the citizenry in the expectation of
services from local government are not concerns rooted in partisan politics; and
WHEREAS, the proposal measure would also eliminate the "pick a party
primary" for King County elective offices, giving the voters greater independence
and selecting those that represent them on a local level; and
WHEREAS, the non-partisan proposal (to have King County elected
offices non-partisan) has been a long standing proposal, and such a change is
ripe for voter consideration; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Auburn, is entitled to express its
collective position on ballot measures in accordance with state law, RCW
