HomeMy WebLinkAbout4228RESOLUTION NO. 4228 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS AT OLYMPIC MIDDLE SCHOOL WHEREAS, the City desires to increase safety in school zones; and WHEREAS, Olympic Middle School has a significant number of elementary, middle, and high school students walking to and from the school site; and WHEREAS, the City in partnership with the Auburn School District applied for and was granted a federal Safe Routes to School grant through the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) in the amount of $185,000 to finance anon- motorized path on the east side of H Street SE, crosswalks, lighting, other safety improvements, educational outreach, and enforcement activities; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to use grant monies to finance safety improvements. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AUBURN, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES as follows: Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to accept the WSDOT grant for $185,000, of which $170,000 is estimated for engineering improvements administered through the City and $15,000 is estimated for engineering, educational, and enforcement activities administered through the Auburn School District. That the Mayor is authorized to implement such other administrative procedures as may be necessary to carry out the directives of this legislation. Section 3.
