HomeMy WebLinkAboutAuburn Bocce Club0RIGiNAL MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING This Memorandum of Understanding is made and entered into this 1 day of June, 2009, by and between the City of Auburn, 25 West Main Street, Auburn, Washington 98002, a municipality of King County, Washington, hereinafter referred to as CITY, and the Auburn Bocce Club, c/o Salvatore Cascone, 1315 24th Street Southeast, Auburn Washington 98002, (Telephone: 253-939-3502) hereinafter referred to as BOCCE CLUB. WHEREAS, the CITY owns and controls certain property, known as Les Gove Park, for the purpose of public recreational and educational opportunities for the citizens of various ages and backgrounds in Auburn; and WHEREAS, the BOCCE CLUB is interested in a volunteer partnership with the CITY to develop Bocce Game opportunities, educate the public on Bocce in the Auburn area; and WHEREAS, the CITY and the BOCCE CLUB wish to formalize a relationship to help maintain and teach the game of Bocce, with the primary focus on providing an opportunity for all ages of citizens of Auburn to learn about Bocce; and WHERAS, the BOCCE CLUB also wishes to continue volunteering for the City of Auburn related to the maintenance of the Bocce courts and improvements; and WHEREAS, The CITY may allow the BOCCE CLUB to hold tournaments and bocce classes free of charge when scheduled through the Parks Department, to be held at Les Gove Park; NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual promises set forth herein, the sufficiency of which is acknowledged, the parties agree as follows: 1. Term. The term shall begin May 1, 2009 and shall run monthly until terminated by both parties with 30 days notice. 2. BOCCE CLUB Obligations. During the term of the MOU, the BOCCE CLUB agrees to: a. Maintain a list of hours volunteered during a community service event, such as providing classes, senior tournaments, and youth education on the game and rules of bocce at Les Gove Park. This list of hours shall be supplied to the parks director quarterly. The hours worked witl be valued at $10.00 per hour of volunteer service. These hours may be used as matching contributions toward any future grants for Bocce court improvements. Memorandum of Understanding April 23, 2009 Page 1 of 3 b. Provide volunteer labor or assistance when the bocce courts need maintenance or when other related projects to be identified by both the CTTY and the BOCCE CLUB may arise. c. The BOCCE CLUB will provide to the Parks Director a yearly schedule of events to be coordinated with the Park Recreation Department Brochure to minimize user group conflicts during events. d. Should the BOCCE CLUB cease its maintenance on the upkeep of the court, the CITY will set a level of maintenance or remove the bocce court if determined to be unsafe. 2. CITY Obligations. During the term of this MOU, CITY agrees to: a. CITY to provide mowing of grass around the Bocce Court area. b. CITY will assist in the preparations of the classes and scheduling of the courts. c. CTTY will assist with the notices of the events scheduled for the year to assure citizens of Auburn are aware of all events to include classes, tournaments and bocce clinics. d. Should the BOCCE CLUB disband the CITY will set a level of maintenance as funding is available or the bocce courts will be removed if determined to be unsafe. 4 Termination. Either party, upon thirry (30) days written notice, may terminate this MOU without penalty. Any BOCCE CLUB event, or activity occurring after the date of termination, but scheduled before the date of termination, shall be governed by the agreement and benefit the citizens of Auburn recreation program. 5 Aproval This MOU shall be operative and effective only after it has been approved and signed by both parties.
