Ordinance No. 6253 contains amendments to Title 18 (Zoning) of the Auburn City Code that will add new
Section 18.04.625 containing a definition for mixed use development, and amend Section 18.260.20
(Permitted Uses) and Section 18.26.030 (Uses Requiring Permit) for permitted and conditional uses in the
C-1 Light Commercial Zoning District. The City Council's approval of Ordinance No. 6253 will cause the
expiration of the current moratorium on the filing of applications for conditional use permits for multi-family
development in the C-1 Light Commercial Zoning District established through the City Council's passage
of Resolution No. 4357 on May 19, 2008. Resolution No. 4357 established an initial six-month moratorium
period that was subsequently extended by the City Council's passage of Resolution No. 4412 on October
28, 2008 and again by Resolution No. 4472 on April 20, 2009. Resolution No. 4472 currently expires on
October 20, 2009.
The Planning Commission conducted a duly advertised pubiic hearing on the proposed amendments to
Chapters 18.04 and 18.26 on August 4, 2009 during which public testimony was made. Following the
closure of the public testimony portion of the public hearing, the Planning Commission deliberated and on
a positive unanimous motion vote recommended approval of the text amendments to the City Council with
minor modifications to Section 18.26.020.LL.2.
The Pianning and Community Development Committee reviewed Ordinance No. 6253 as an action item
at its regularly scheduled meeting on August 10, 2009. The Committee unanimously approved a motion
recommending the City Council approve Ordinance No. 6253 with modifications. These mqdifications
consisted of the addition of Sections 18.26.020.LL.5-6.
Ordinance No. 6253 was presented for information purposes to the Public Works and Finance
Committees on August 17, 2009. The August 17, 2009 public hearing before the Auburn City Council on
Ordinance No. 6253 has been duly advertised. I
