HomeMy WebLinkAboutITEM V-D Memorandum TO: Planning and Community Development Committee FROM: Public Works Department, Transportation Section RE: Transportation Plan – Capital Roadway Projects DATE: August 18, 2009 ATTACHMENTS: 1) List of Proposed Projects (Alternative 1, 2, 3) 2) Corridor Level-of-Service Table for Proposed Project Alternatives 3) Roadway Improvement Alternatives Map Project Purpose The City’s Comprehensive Transportation Plan was adopted in 2005. In January 2008, the City annexed two large areas, Lea Hill and West Hill. The City is currently in the process of updating the plan to include these two areas. Capital Roadway Projects Staff have been working with our modeling and Transportation Plan consultants to identify potential roadway capacity and safety projects to address needs that have arisen during the public outreach and modeling processes. Similar to the current Transportation Plan, three alternatives have been analyzed. Alternative 1 includes projects currently programmed in the TIP. Alternative 2 includes other city projects not in the TIP that should be considered for inclusion in the plan update. Alternative 3 includes regional projects led by WSDOT. The attached tables list the projects by alternative and the map identifies their location. We are in the process of cost estimating the projects, so when available, cost estimates have been provided. The attached map identifies the location of the proposed projects. Next Steps th Staff will be present at the August 24 Planning and Community Development Committee meeting to discuss the proposed roadway projects. If the committee members have questions in advance of the meeting, please contact Tiffin Goodman at 253-288-7447 or tgoodman@auburnwa.gov. Staff can then be prepared to answer specific questions in more detail at the meeting. A draft plan will be prepared in September and reviewed by the Public Works Committee. The draft plan will then be taken through the annual Comprehensive Plan amendment cycle, including the Planning Commission public hearing and review by the Planning and Community Development Committee prior to adoption.
