Since then, we have met with staff from the other finro core cities, Puyallup and Lakewood, on how to distribute the population allocated to the core cities and what each jurisdiction coutd accommodate. At the September 24, 2009 Growth Management Coordinating Committee (GMCC) meeting, the draft numbers were presented to the group (see the attached table). 2008 2022 Total Population 2030 Total Population Allocation (what already Population allocated and planning for) Allocation Auburn 6,605 7,950 7,950 (Pierce County portion) Lakewood 58,780 72,000 72,000 Puyallup 36,930 38,600 50,000 With the current recommendation, the core cities would be taking approximately 12.5% of Pierce County's future growth which is not in line with PSRC's Vision 2040 which is greater. As mentioned, staffs from the three cities have met to prepare documentation and justification for the current recommendation and believe it can be justified. Next Steps The core cities' documentation will be provided to Pierce County for consolidation into a single recommendation package for the GMCC to take action at the October 22nd Page 1 of 2 ALIBURN *MaRE -rHAN YQU IMAGiNEn meeting. The GMCC recommendation is then forwarded to the Pierce County Regionai Council (PCRC) for their review and action. Councilmember Cerino represents the City at the PCRC. Once the PCRC makes their recommendation, it is forwarded to the Pierce County Council for action. Pierce County differs from King County in that the County Council's decision is final and the targets are not part of the Countywide Planning Policies. It is anticipated that the Pierce County Council will take action on the targets (housing/population and jobs) in Spring 2010.
