HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-16-2009 White River Valley Historical Society Board Meeting September 16, 2009, 1:30 to 3 p.m. Muckleshoot Room, White River Valley Museum Board Members Present:: Ronnie Beyersdorf, Tom Campbell, Jan Cavanaugh, Mike Gerber, Julie Herren, Michelle Marshman, Judi Roland, Lisa Scarff, Jennifer Taufler, Richard Artura, Doug Hedger Board Members Excused: Gator Chamberlain, Pat Bailey, Clarissa Ruston, Mae Yamada Staff Present: Kristen Bruhahn, Patricia Cosgrove, Erin Hash, Tara McCauley Guests: Kristi Mills 1. Call To Order, Introductions, Approval of Minutes. President Ronnie Beyersdorf President Beyersdorf called the meeting to order. Minutes for the board meeting of 8/19/2009 were approved with the correction that the next meeting was not October as stated. II. Board President Report President Beyersdorf A. Review of Museum Calendar B. Museology 101: Museum Gift Shop Patricia and Kristen Patricia and Kirsten discussed the museum gift shop. The stock must be historic in nature and ranges from 25 cents to $295.00. The gift shop generates revenue throughout the year. It began in 1992 when Maxine Moergeli and Dario Cugini raised $10,000 for stock. Over the years the inventory has stayed around $10.000. Kristen and Patricia work together.- Patricia selects merchandize and Kristen handles the orders, inventory and pricing. Last year a new system was developed. Each piece of stock was given an item number. These numbers are entered at purchase. Due to this system the inventory is more accurate with fewer discrepancies. Profits have gone up each year. Patricia shared some of the quality items the gift shop sells; puppets, carvings, books, toys, hand towels and ornaments. III. Committees A. Finance Committee Treasurer Doug Hedger The budget is off ($6300) from last year at this time. The Harvest Ball committee revised its income projects dow $3000. The issue is income: admission is down $500; the gift shop is behind $1900. Operating grants are up $2000. The museum received $500 from Auburn Valley Kiwanis for Free Wednesdays. Motion to approve the Budget Report was seconded and approved. B. Mary Olson Farm Committee Judi Roland Two new environmental grants are pending. The committee is reviewing bids: asking questions and making decisions in order to be ready when the funds are available. The radiant heat is almost complete. The risk of flooding was discussed. It is impossible to secure the farm from flood. The committee believes that the house will be safe. C. Halloween Costume Ball Committee Julie Herren Clarissa is working with the table captains. Kristi has been very busy getting items for the auction. The committee meets weekly. Ronnie is working on an in-kind donation of catering. Gift baskets are needed as soon as possible. D. Community Connections Committee Clarissa Ruston Tara gave an overview of the education programs to area Rotary clubs. Additional presentations are scheduled. She is requesting sponsorship to provide bronze identification signs for the farm buildings. IV. Staff Report A. Exhibit Attendance and 2010 Schedule Patricia Cosgrove Attendance has been very good. Staff members are thinking about new exhibits that are PR worthy to try an attract audiences as well as has Suffer for Beauty. V.
