Sculpture Committee Program President Bud Kuhlman introduced Hope and Reynaldo (Sonny) Rivera of Albuquerque. Sonny was selected by the Sculpture Committee to create the life-size bronze artwork of Kisa Iseri. This piece along with two other figures were designed into the exhibits when they were first envisioned in 1994. It is the first piece to be funded, thanks largely to the networking and support of Mae Yamada. Sonny showed slides of the full size clay rendering of the sculpture in the form accepted by the Committee. In this way, the assembled board and guests had the opportunity to preview the piece and hear an explanation of its intent and design by the artist himself. The audience asked questions of Sonny and Hope, and together acquired a good understanding of the artistic process and of this individual piece. Sonny was asked what was exceptional or different about this piece, and he replied that he had developed a true respect for Kisa Iseri, derived from the biographic information, photographs and his interviews with her daughter Mae Yamada. He said that the piece depicts a dignity that he finds quite moving. IV. Adjourn President Kuhlman adjourned the meeting at 2: 45. The next meeting will be held at the Auburn Library meeting room on June 14, from 1:30 to 2:30.
