Board Meeting Minutes
July 12, 2000, 1:30 to 2:30
Board Members Present: Marissa Armstrong, Earl Averill, Libby Dykstra, Earl Hagen,
Mike Hamilton, Debbie Maguire, John Meneghini, Maxine Moergeli, Charles Natsuhara, Bill
Peloza, Dick Pickett, Doris Ramstead, Mike Stevens, Daryl Thompson, Mae Yamada
Board Members Excused: Al B'Hymer, Bud Kuhlman, Walter Pacheco, Hans Torklep
Staff Present: Patricia Cosgrove
1. Call to Order and Approval of Minutes
Vice-president Stevens called the meeting to order and asked that the minutes be
approved as sent. APPROVED
It Chair Report
Vice-president Stevens reported that some members of the Board had made their
contribution to the Building Fund. He used this opportunity to remind all board members that
their contribution or their company's support would be greatly appreciated. To date, $215,000 of
the required $255,000 has been raised.
III. Treasury and Committee Reports
A. Treasurer Pickett reviewed the quarterly financial report. Income and expenses are
following the budget expectations. While studying the improvements in the financial reporting,
Mike Hamilton asked where the expense side of the Gift Shop was recorded. Treasurer Pickett
said that he would look into that and answer at the next meeting. The Board appreciates the new
format for reporting special funds such as grants and contracts.
B. Mike Hamilton reviewed construction plans for the new wing and reminded the Board
that construction should begin this fall.
C. Charles Natsuhara reviewed the plans for the unveiling of Issei. The sculpture will be
installed on July 21 and unveiled on July 23 with family and donors in attendance.
D. Bill Peloza, chair of the Harvest Masquerade Ball reviewed the project budget
designed to earn an estimated $17,000. Due to an increase in the cost of the meal, the ticket
prices this year will be $50 per person. Estimated income is heavily dependent upon sponsorships
of which four have been committed to date.
IV. Staff Report
A. Patricia Cosgrove reported that over 350 persons toured the museum on July 4t'`, and
that the Society sponsored the food vender, Kettle Corn, and will receive 10% of their proceeds.
B. The museum director noted that a contract had been let to re-roof Olson Farm barn
and that work should begin this August. Funding for this project is available through a King
County Hotel Motel funds grant.
V. Mystery Board Member
Libby Dykstra was revealed as the mystery board member. The clues were: recently
attended a civic function dressed as a pregnant woman; managed the Historical Societies finances
for many years; lived on property that is now a park.
VI. Adjourn
Vice-president Stevens adjourned the meeting at 2:30. The next meeting will be held at
the Library Meeting Room, on August 16, from 1:30 to 2:30.
