Treasurers Report Doug Hedger
Doug stated that we ended up a little above budget for the year of 2006.
The end funds were as expected and it was noted that the Free Wednesday and the
Harvest Ball were big financial success. Kristen and Doug will review the 2007 budget
in the next couple of weeks. A motion was made and approved to accept the treasurers
report.
Introductions
Jennifer Traufler from the Auburn School District was introduced as a new board
member. Cole Adams was introduced to the board and is a former board member.
II. Board Orientation Cole Adams
Cole Adams, previous museum board member reviewed the many ways board
members can be extraordinary in their performance. Each board member had a chance
to tell why they are on the board and what nugget of excellence they wished to leave
behind. Each board member was asked to sign the list of documented responsibilities
for being a museum board member. We were reminded how important is the role of
being a board member and of what a difference each individual can make. The signed
document sheets were collected at the end of the meeting.
III. Long Range Plan 2007 to 2011 Michelle Marshman
A discussion on the Museum and Farm chapters of the Plan was lead by
Michelle Marshman. Comments were collected to improve the plan. The Mary Olson
Farm, plan was reviewed to plan for educational services. The advisory services needs
to be more clearly spelled out. We also need to spell out our relationship with the
Muckleshoot Preservation committee. Warren Kinggeorge pointed out that the structure
of tribal organization has evolved. We need to present a staffing plan to the City of
Auburn for the Mary Olson Farm.
Patricia Cosgrove action item: Staff members will help revise sections of the plan,
bringing them back to the next board meeting for review. When complete, the plan will
be presented to the Auburn City Council.
There was discussion about getting a vehicle for the WRVM to use at the Mary Olson
farm. A pickup truck was suggested and even consider a vintage pickup truck that fit a
vintage farm.
IV. Board Committees Gordy Nishimoto
A. Gordy Nishimoto reviewed the eight committees, and worked with board
members to see that everyone had a committee assignment.
BREAK
V. Long Range Plan 2007 to 2011 Terry Davis
A. Administration Chapter was reviewed by Terry Davis. It was pointed out
that one did not have to be a Board Member to be a committee member. Additional
names were provided to augment committees. Due to time constraints, President
Gordy Nishimoto, directed that we will take up future long range plan review at the next
board meeting and interim committee meetings.
VI. Learning About the Museum Cole Adams
A. Cole talked about how museum board members can be armed with sound
bites regarding the museum and share these with their personal circle of acquaintances.
January WOW Statements:
o As part of the Auburn School District curriculum, the White River Valley Museum
provides fieldtrip experiences for ALL kindergarten and third grade students! We
know of no other museums that work this closely with their local school district.
o Did you know that since the City began partnering with the Historical Society
(1990) that the Society has earned 1.38 dollars for every dollar provided by the
city? [These funds total $2.2 dollars invested by the City matched by $3.1 million
dollars raised by the Society, used for things such as building improvements,
exhibits, heat, etc]
Meeting adjourned at 4:OOpm by motion of the board, Ronnie Beyersdorf, Secretary
Next Board Meeting: February 21, 2007, 1:30 to 2:30
