HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-21-2007White River Valley Historical Society Board Meeting MINUTES March 21, 2007, 1:30 to 2:30 Muckleshoot Room, White River Valley Museum 1. Call To Order, Approval of Minutes and Introductions A motion was made and passed to approve the minutes as corrected. It Chair Report A. New Format: All Committees on Agenda B. Long Range Plan Completion Terry Davis reported on the long range plan. The committee recommended that we review the plan once a year. Patricia stated that we will present the long to the city council meeting in the coming weeks. We need some citizen and WRVM board member support. April 9 and 16th are the dates. We eventually want to apply for a designation as a Preserve America City. There is funding available for cities so designated. This is a Federal Government program. A motion was made and seconded to approve the long range plan as changed and up dated. There was discussion and the motion passed by the board. III. Treasury and Committee Reports A. Finance Committee Doug Hedger Doug reported that we are $4000 positive in our budget. This has come from Free Wednesdays, grants and gift shop sales. Doug said that group tours are down a little this year.We are behind in cash in from grants due to incoming cash flow. Patricia reported on the ongoing grant applications and activities. B. Mary Olson Farm Capital Campaign Ronnie Beyersdorf, JB Rupert Patricia spoke on some of the new folks who have agreed to support the campaign. C. Collections Committee Warren Kinggeorge Current fees charged for photographs copied for patrons are too low to cover current prices we must pay. A new pricing structure was presented to the board, and a motion was made and accepted to accept the price changes. D. PR Committee Terry Davis The PR Committee is still to meet this year however they negociated use of the Auburn Youth Services Sign on Auburn Way South. We need a variance from the city of Auburn for this off site sign. Once allowed, we will purchase new message boards that promote the museum and provide directions to it. A motion was made to empower the committee to move forward with the city on getting the variance and sign approvals. The motion passed. E. Education and Exhibits Committee Gordy Nishimoto This committee met last month and are working with school teachers developing a curriculum the farm. We also looked at how in part the farm could be staffed with college or high school students. F. Harvest Costume Ball Judi Roland, Doug Hedger Judi reported that we signed a contract with the Double Tree at Seatac and selected the music for the event and the board listened to the music. Terry Davis has volunteered to captain our efforts to get sponsors. The ball will be October 27, 2007. G. Free Wednesdays Update Ronnie Beyersdorf Ronnie reported on the current Free Wednesday donations and how to interact in person with prospective donors. IV. Staff Report A. Farm tours and board development class Patricia Cosgrove Patricia reported about the WOW statements for support the museum with talking with community members. For March our WOW statements focused on how we are raising a population of museum- loving children, and how other non-profits look to us as an example of good leadership
