Muckleshoot Room, White River Valley Museum
Call to Order, Approval of Minutes and Introductions
A motion was made and passed to approve the minutes.
II. Chair Report
President Nishimoto announced that staff member Tara McCauley received an award from the
Association of King County Heritage Organizations, for Heritage Educator of the Year and board
members expressed their pleasure.
Capital Campaign Co-Chair Ronnie Beyersdorf asked board members to brainstorm on two
questions, Who might want to contribute? and How can we get people involved? The resulting list is
attached.
III. Treasury and Committee Reports
Treasurer Doug Hedger gave the Quarterly Finance Committee Report, reporting that we are
healthier this year over last year for revenues over expenses. We are about $3900 to the positive.
We will receive an additional $5000 from King County Ex Pete Von Reichbauer. The committee
recommendation is that the money be used for the sign on Auburn Way South. Treasurer Hedger also
asked if the Board would consider reviewing and amending the Society bylaws to enable officers to
serve for more than two consecutive years. A motion was made and approved to appoint a bylaw
committee of Museum Administration staff to review the bylaws and suggest changes regarding length
of term of office for officers and other bylaw house keeping issues.
Patricia Cosgrove updated the board on work from the Collections Committee, noting that the
new prices for photo reproduction that had been reviewed at the last board meeting had been put into
place.
Terry Davis reported for the PR Committee. He said we submitted for a variance for approval
on the new Auburn Way sign for the museum. Additionally, a new TV21 series, Auburn Our Story has
been launched, coupling our collection of oral histories with visual production. The first in the series
features Denny Swanson and his antique saw mill.
Co-Chairs Doug Hedger and Judi Roland reported on progress being made with plans for the
Harvest Costume Ball. The sponsorship flyer has been produced and the push is on to locate and
secure the sponsors for this year's ball. Judi noted that every board member is responsible to sponsor
or captain at least one table
Ronnie Beyersdorf reported that some Free Wednesdays are coming in, and urged board
members to follow up on their contacts.
IV. Staff Report
Director Cosgrove described the next exhibit, "Abby Williams Hill, Western Pioneer and
Landscape Artist," and urged all board members to get the opening date on their calendars (Preview,
Tuesday, May 29, 5 to 7 p.m.). Michelle Marshman is again acting as guest curator, helping to select
paintings, arrange the display and write the labels. This exhibit includes about 20 paintings and other
artifacts that will be on display. The paintings are owned by the University of Puget Sound.
